I would go with the Manual setup, less things to go wrong.

I wish they would have lockout hubs along with the manual option.

I have seen too many vacuum and electric lines get pulled apart when offroad, then you do not have 4WD.

If you stay on the highway I suppose electric would work OK.

What's wrong with the electric? I've always had a the manual, but with the 48RE I kind of like the idea of the extra floor space.

I've never had electric. Always liked the satisfying clunk of shifting it myself and the thought that there was one less thing that could go wrong. There isn't any choice for the Laramie package, though. Electric is it.

The problem is, they tend to hang. You select 4H and you might not get it right away, due to any number of electrical or mechanical factors. This could easily mean the difference between getting traction and getting stuck even worse.

There is only one answer and that's a manuel. Electric t-cases scare me, I do snowplowing and I can't afford a electrical mishap when the snow is flying. Also FWIW this NV271 shifts alot easier than my old 241HD. Just remember electronics burn out, short out, crap out, and so on. There for it's safe to say when it's time for 4WD you don't need any of the above to happen.

I don't see a real problem with electric.

1. You should be in 4 before you get close to trouble. Not to mention easier on your equipment.

2. There are now PLENTY of electric motors ect. in your truck. ie, the motors that roll your windows up and down, and those seem to be reliable.

3. How often are you even going to use these motors? 5 times a month???

I used to think the same thing, but then I thought about what the truck was used for. It's not my dedicated 4x. :)

I'm kinda looking forward to the electronic setup,with the 6 speed you should be able to hookup quicker,just hit the dash,and grab another gear,:-{} :-{}

Hey,

If you get in one of the new 03 4x4's, actually go into 4wheel with the manual and you will see that it is simply a manual lever operating electrical engagements. This isn't like the old transfer cases that would grind gears, etc. Even with the "manual" lever on the floor, you are still going into 4x4 electronically.

I would say it depends on if you have to stop and go in reverse in order to disengage 4X4 like some of the older units. If that is the case then I would say manual. Regardless though, if the only way to get a truck fully loaded is to get the buttons... . then I get the buttons. :)
