Nice 4X4 with a Cummins ...

Official ratings of new Duramax

I don't think there are so many inaccuracies in the whole TDR, as in this one post:

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/archive/topic/93330.html

"cummins has been around for a long time and they put the same engine in an 80,000 pound Freightshaker that they do in a 1 ton dodge pickup"

"get the Dodge its built in a Ford owned factory with quality for parts to cummins specs"

"Emissons will do the Cummins in. The Cummins is a good engine, and a 7. 3 could be tuned to make the low end, but emissions is why the 6. 0 is now Ford's engine of choice. In the next few years, the Dodge Cummins will have to be replaced with a "cleaner" engine, too. And from what I've read (no proof yet, I know), the replacement won't be a Cummins, it'll be a Mercedes-Benz diesel, reason being, Chrysler is in the same company as Mercedes, and it would cut costs if the engines were actually made within the company. I'm just basing that on what I've read and I think it would be a bad decision to drop the Cummins. Their transmissions, on the other hand, need a lot of work before I would consider getting one. And I would wait a while before getting a 6. 0, too, so the bugs will all be worked out. Just a few of my thoughts. " (OK some of this may be true, or may come true... but it appears that Cummins has the emissions thing licked... for now)

These guys must all drive gassers as little as thay know about diesels.

I really liked the one about the guy with a dodge 2500 that thinks he has 6:1 rear gears.

Reread that post on the 6. 1 gears, it says a modified Ram with the wheelbase of a Geo Metro and a top speed of 39mph at 3000rpm, these are for flightline use only from the post info. The other guy sure doesnt have clue though.

The most telling thing, and I verified this on Ford's website, is that the 7. 3 Powerstroke is the diesel option up to and including the F-650. The ISB or CAT are the diesel options on the F-650 & F-750 :D

Another thing-if you look under Ford Commercial, the 7. 3 is still available in the F-250 to F-550 for 2004... I wonder if this is correct? The 6. 0 is the "consumer" diesel?

I figured a 80000 lb "Freightshaker" was an OTR Freightliner-which may use a Cummins engine, but a much larger one than the ISB... was I wrong?

Are any Cummins engines built in Ford plants to Cummins specs?

It just appeared to me to be the kind of folks who still think Ford owns Cummins and the Ram is in trouble when the contract runs out :D :D :D

ok - if there was a "saturday night live" type satire of a diesel truck forum, THAT is the one !!!!!

is that place for real or are they just a bunch of jokers?

no matter how many times it is stated otherwise, some people still think ford has an ownership stake in cummins. what a laugh!!!!!

hey - by the way, what were you doing in a furd forum?????

The moderators over there make darn sure no accurate material is posted. They find it threatening. Unfortunately you wind up with a bunch of nit wits who dont know their a$$ from a hole in the ground. The quality of posts over there is the lowest Ive seen.

I recommend not going there as it is frustrating to see how bad it is. I joined bout a year ago. I corrected some misinformation and was promptly booted as a troll. It was absurd. The oh Yeah the 5. 9 is only running on 5 cylinders before the turbo kicks in kind of absurd.

The webmaster used to watch these boards before steve st laurent but somehow got worried that all cummins owners were out to destroy him.

The flighline tow vehicles Do have ridiculous low ends in the rear. They are all old 12V that redline at 3200rpm. Top speed was about 30mph.

I commandeered one as my command vehicle for my last deloyment:)

Also, they are not always destroying transmissions. But if you've ever seen a piece of equipment or a vehicle subjected to GI abuse, EVERYTHING gets torn up, no matter what brand.

Hohn,

What a coincidence. I was just talking to a guy at work that was in the military in the 60's. He was telling me about the diesel tank engines and how they used to adjust the governor to get them to rev real high.

I asked: "The tank engines don't break down. . right?"

He sez: "Hell ya they do. What do you expect when you have a bunch of 18 year olds beating the crap out of em" :)
