Competition A new video emerges from Bristol this spring....

I Friend Is Wanting To Pull His 04. 5 In A Modified Class This Up Coming Season. The Rules State A Air Shut Off Is Required Is There Any Way To Do Something Electronic On The Common Rail To Kill The Motor Or What Is The Easiest Way To Made To Judges Happy Sorry So Long First Time On Tdr

R Painter, welcome to TDR. . no such thing as a long post. My understanding your friend will need a "gillotine" cut off and will have to be manually operated. Bascially it's a plate that slides in front of your turbo that cuts the air supply completely off thus shuting down the engine immediately. It has to be manual not electronic etc. You can check sheids diesel performance web site I think ,they sell them. Also you can contact DHRA association for more information.

email Ryan and tell him what size you want and if you want electric or cable--he can set you up with the valve and cable for the manual(less expensive), but if you want the electric one you need to buy a trailer break-a-way swiitch to activate it---chris

This whole thing on Manual or electric and being alowed to use it is hard to understand. I have heard from some people that the electric unit isn't alowed to be run but I see no reason why not... I run the valve mentoned above and I am sure it is way more efficient than the gullotine unites. These valves are made for vehicals in the oil fields and HAVE TO WORK!!!!! The only reason I can see is because of the break away trailer switch needed to cut the power to it therefore closing the valve (they are powered by a big spring to close them) but all our gasser friends at the pulls have been using the same break away switch setup for years to cut power to there ignitions!

DHRA doesn't care if it's electrically activated:

Master Cutoff:

A sled- and driver-operated spring-loaded emergency air shut off is mandatory. The cable must

terminate into a two inch diameter steel ring.
