Hi All,



A while back I heard a sound (like a kazoo) everytime I used my exhaust brake. One morning while warming it up with the brake on I heard it and checked under the hood to see condensation bubbling out from between the turbo and exhaust manifold. I replaced the gasket and the sound went away. Now it's back again and I'm pretty sure it's the turbo gasket leaking again. Does anyone use any sealer on this gasket when installing it? Any ideas on a better gasket other than the same crushable one we all use from Cummins?

No sealer needed, just makes a mess. Check the nuts every now and then to make sure they are still tight, especially if the gasket is new. I would make sure the 15mm nuts are tight and then if it still leaks, replace the gasket again and check the nuts quite often to make sure they are tight. :)

I checked the nuts after I heard the leak and they were all tight. I guess I'll get another gasket and try again. Anyone have any tips on making it easier to get the nuts off and on, they are a pain. Maybe I'll get one of those fancy curved/angled wrenches.

Never had any problems with the nuts on my turbo, just a basic open/box end 15mm works very well. Even with the HTB2 I thought they were even easier to get on and off. Might try a little more anti-sieze if they are tough to get off... .

I was wondering the same thing. It's an ATS manfold with a PDR HX-40. I'll have to check it with a straight edge when it's apart and maybe do some dressing with a file.

Mike, this happened to me on a different project. I put some fine grit sand paper on a flat surface, added a little water and gently moved the flange in a figure eight until it was flat. Not sure if this will help, but it's an idea. Good luck, Mike
