Well, I think I may trade my 04 2500 for a new 06 2500 Mega Cab with the 6 speed manual. I assume I will have to order it given how rare the manual is. Someone noted that there are two manual trans used from 04. 5 - 06 and that one is preferred over the other. This is news to me. Was there a transmission change at some point? I love my 04 but don't care for the 48re. There is a new tc going in under warranty later this week. That may or may not make it tolerable to me. THanks

Yes they did change the 6spd some time in 05 from to what they call the G56 it has a lower overdrive and it is the only 6spd available now.

Also the G56 has a lower OD. The 6 speed with 3:73's is tacking just a little higher then the auto with 4:10's when both are in overdrive. You can't get the 4:10's with the G56.

I have this trans and have had no problems. Well until you get used to the shift pattern. Once or twice I have had it in a forward gear when I thought it was reverse. I actualy thought about hooking an LED up to the console to tell me when its in reverse, but in time I will learn where reverse is :)

In mid 05 model yr. they changed from the NV5600 to the G56. There has been a lot of threads on this subject, so if you do a search you will find lots of information on it. The most basic design difference is the flywheel because the new one is of a two piece design to help make smoother shifts and has been tried before with the other two manufactures with negative results although this flywheel has no negative threads so far as I have read or heard. I saw a brand new 4X4 CTD 2500 mega cab with the G56 pull at a sled pull competition and did quite well for being stock. The truck had only 12 miles on it and still belonged to D/C. Good luck with yours if you purchase it, I have enjoyed mine and it pulls awesome up steep grades.

If you do this please let me know how to. I know I can tap into the reverse light wire, but how can I find that wire closer to the cab?

I had a problem today thinking I was in 1st and was in reverse also.
