I'm a newby, this is my first post. Sorry for the non-technical jargon, but I don't know the names of all these parts!

I just replaced the fuel filter on my '93. I found the the manual (lever operated) fuel pump located near the filter no longer functions. Pump lever operates free of resistance and does nothing.

Is this difficult to replace?

Also, is there a dual battery conversion available for this vehicle? I've looked through the other forums and couldn't find mention of it. My old ('84) Ford diesel had duals, and lasted LOTS longer than this single battery setup. I'm eating a battery every 2 years, and the local Dodge dealer no longer stocks them. Currently need a battery, and looking at Deka1231PMF or 1260PMF.

This is a '93 D250 LE, 225,00 miles, 5spd, all stock. I'm the original owner.

Raleigh, North Carolina

Richard, welcome to the TDR. On the lift pump, sometimes if you bump/crank the engine over a hair, you can get it too prime. They are very easy to change. Stick with the Cummins parts for any engine part. The aftermarkets don't always fit perfectly. No need for two batteries. Good to see someone else wanting a Deka battery. For a distributor, go to www.dekabatteries.com. Just get the biggest group 31 battery you can. I have one of those Deka group 31's, can't remember the #, its one of those you listed though, in each one of my Dodge's.

Welcome to the TDR, Richard -

I'll add that sometimes I've had to bump my engine 3-4 times to get the cam in the right position so the lever will function.

I haven't had any trouble with an Interstate group 31 battery powering my trucks. I get about 3-4 years out of mine. No real performance difference from the '99 I had that had 2 batteries -- those died right at 3 years and then cost twice as much to replace!

I'd like to try a Deka, but can't find any distributors in my area. You won't have any problems with the Deka battery you are looking at.

Cheers,

Hi,

You need the Deka man! By the way, you can fit two batteries on that tray if you rotate them 90°

And welcome. And don't be surprised if somebody hi-jacks your thread to talk about some darn sheeps butt. (roll-eyes) :)

Welcome Richard.

I'm running a single Optima red top and it's worked fine going into it's third New England winter. And they don't leak!!

You can fit 2 of these in your exisiting battery tray by mounting them sideways.

Thanks (to you AND the othersthat suggested it) for the reply! I tried short bumps on the starter, and sure enough, the pump seems to work fine!

Thanks also for the battery info. I called the DEKA distributor in High Point, NC... and found out there is a supplier about a mile from me! This was a pleasant surprise. No ... just to get the beast started so I can GET to the store!

Cheers, and thanks again!
