I have a 03. 5 with an auto The automatic ramp up is nice in the cold weather but I wonder if I can do this manualy On the big trucks I earn my liveing on its done with the cruse buttons I usually start the truck in the middle of my horse chores and some days it ramps up just as Im walking out to leave Also does any one have pictures or diagram on how to install a torque converter lock up switch? Thanks Craig

You can get a high idle enabled by your dealer with the DRB tool, or with the smarty. It allows you to run up your idle with the CC buttons, I did it on my truck with the smarty and it works great! Also with the exhaust brake it warms up really fast!

Did you have to do anything under the hood to enable the high idle? How much does the dealer charge to do this?

I was thinking the manual high idle started with the 2004 model year trucks??? On my 06 I went to the dealer and had them turn it on, that's it, from then on you can run the idle with the cruise buttons.

SStiss. Have you had tsb 18-037-04 flash done yet. (white smoke, rough idle, etc. ) If so, the software is now on your ecm. If not, have it done and tell them to activate the high idle while their in there. I had the flash done a year ago but didn't have them do the idle. I had my oil changed yesterday and told them to do it while I was there. They were cool about it and knew what I was talking about. They even came and got me when they did it. He just plugged the drbIII under the dash and in the menu it's under "engine" then "miscellaneous". All the way at the bottom it said "enable high idle". Took 2 minutes. No charge. Good luck.

Does this mean that you can now manually control a high idle with the cruise buttons on your 2004. 5? Please explain more. Thanks

Dieselhed, about a year ago I did have the flash done for the white smoke at start-up, overhead comp. , etc, but I'm not sure if they did the high idle. I didn't know about it then so I didn't know to ask them to do it. I read on a thread here that I need to ground one of the pins from the ECM under the hood (or something like that) because I have the 6 speed. Do you, or someone else perhaps, know what else I need to do? Thanks for your help!

Since you had the flash your ecm was updated with the latest software, it is in there. Since you have the 6 speed you do need to by pass the clutch. There is an item you can get that will bypass it for you but I'm not sure what it's called or how you install it. Purhaps someone with a manual can chime in on this. I know for a fact you can do it though. Next time you have your truck in for service just tell them to enable the manual high idle. Hopefully they will know what your talking about, my dealership did. They shouldn't charge you, like I said it takes 2-3 minutes. Do some looking around at past threads here and on DieselStop.com, I think I read something about it over there. It's a really handy feature to have.

are us 03 maual owner's out of luck and will never see high idle, or can we rig something up... and has it been done.

03 auto AND manual trans trucks are out of luck. Differant ECM set up then 04 up. What is differant on a 03 and a 03. 5? Thats a new one!

Are you sure this will work on a 2004. 5 manual? I understand the automatic, but what about the manual. I have a 2004. 5 manual and grounded the pin, had Dodge turn on the high idle, but nothing. If I have them do the TSB will it all work?

Thanks

Pete

Mine works great! used my smarty, grounded #22 pin on the ECM (for the manuals), hit CC on, then set, jumps right to 1100 RPM's and use the accell/coast buttons to go up and down. Flip on the exhuast brake and it warms right up!

I went to the dealer a few weeks ago asking about the high idle activation and they looked at me weird and said they know nothing about it working on manuel transmission trucks. Said they would call someone at DC and ask some questions and get back to me. No word as of yet,I am not holding my breath. But with it getting cold now, the truck seems to do it on its own, jumps up to 1000 rpm's and stays there until you hit the pedal or it get warm enough I suppose. would be nice to be able to turn it on,I have been reading about it, sounds fairly easy, just haven't messed with it yet

When ever a dealer tells you they will call someone with D. C. tell them you'll hang out a while while they do so. They usually can get STAR on the phone in a few minutes to a half hour or at least youuse too. Called them a lot for answers to such while customers waited unless we were slammed and then I put it on my note pad of things to do.

can you guys tell me if it has to be a certain temperature to work? Had mine enabled this morning when truck was hot... . and afterwards tried it and it didnt work. we just figured it was because the truck was hot.

I saw it myself on the DRB that it said enabled..... and we double checked that again too. So it is enabled. truck is a 2004 automatic. any insight?
