Competition Tired of hearing how good the furds are!

Competition HD 37 Spline Dana 80 Axles : )

I first posted this in the 24V Engine and Trans Discussion but after following a suggestion I decided to move it here.

Due to my recent horsepower increases (twins and Injectors) I have the strange feeling my trans is not long for this world. I am currently trying to take it easy on the fairly stock trans with exception on TC and VB.

My question is which way to go manual or automatic. I have tried to do a fair amount cost comparisons and I think that for about the same money I can either have a fully built auto or convert to a 5 speed with most of the goodies.

I plan to do a fair amount of sled pulling and maybe a few drag racing passes but probably a lot more sled pulling. Which way would you guys recommend.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well..... Autos are making a big run at being competitive in pulling. There were 2 truck at Muncie last year that did VERY well. I pull with my auto... while I'm still underpowered for what would do well, I'm in the 260foot range. I think being able to start out in a lower gear and go up... . and back down is an advantage.

Apparently Haisley Machine is agreeing with my thinking... .

Those are the options that they recommend.

If you're gonna run a manual... . from what I have heard... the pulling clutches need to be rebuilt once a year at a pretty good cost.

With the power you are running... . do your research. I'd recommend getting the billit shafts.

There's NO DOUBT what I'd do! (see sig. ) I'd swap an auto out 10 times before I would build one :-laf That's just me though... ... your driving style and demands might be different.

BTW, don't let anyone tell you it's any cheaper to build your auto than it is to swap it out!
