Electrical HELP!!!

Can anyone give me some ideas for a professional looking manual shut-off cable? I have installed a universal choke cable from Checker Auto but it really sucks. The tubing that the wire runs through is a wound metal type and the sound from the engines vibrates right through into the cab. It also binds because it's a wire and not a cable running through it. I searched online at various sites that sell cables and such but was wondering if any of you guys have already done a nice clean installation that looked factory. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

When I was a heavy diesel mechanic all the old mechanical engine shut off controls I remember were exactly as you describe. None of them had a "cable" inside the wire wound sleeve they all were a wire inside of the sleeve. There is a type of aircraft control cable that is weather tight, I have seen it used for other applications similar to what you are trying to do. Its called a Morse cable, I do not know where to buy this cable, but it is used by Turbo- Action on their Cheetah Shifters on their automatic trans shifters to control the trans shift lever. I bet it is pricey due to the original application is in the aircraft industry. You might want to contact Turbo-Action or try looking up Morse cable in places that carry aircraft parts. Another idea I just thought of is sliding a long piece of heat shrink tube over the sleeve and shrinking it onto it. This might help with the engine noise problem.

Here is a link to Turbo-Action http://www.turboaction.com/frame.html

Well what do you know, here is the page where they list the cables seperately. http://www.turboaction.com/frame.html

Not so very long ago the TDR magazine printed an article about a quality install of a PTO cable used in heavy trucks. Gave part number I think it did.

I would have to say, any quality cable PTO or otherwise, would be sourced from a heavy truck dealer or jobber. Perhaps even NAPA. I think they too have them listed in one of their cataloges. I don't recall where I have purchased them in the past. Been some time ago.

A quality cable will feel like it's on needle bearings.

Morse cables are a Marine and Industrial Item, you can get them at most marine stores, there are many different types of end that can be ordered.

Here's a link to them

the 30 or 33 type cables are the small diameter ones that would work for your application

I think that they could probably get them at a Napa store also but I'm not positive about that. They make a cable that you can use for a fast idle that has a knob that you can screw out with fine threads to raise the RPM's but has a button on the top so when you want to turn it back down you just push on it, someday I'll get around to installing one on my truck and get rid of my wooden stick hi idle.

Hope this helps,

Caleb

Thanks, Greenleaf and Boatpuller. I took a look at www.teleflexmorse.com and they have EXACTLY what I had in mind. I'll also give NAPA a try to see if they have anything. I found www.ChassisShop.com and they had some really neat cables for race cars. There were applications for stuff like drag chute releases and such, however, they are very pricey. I think it would be an overkill for what I need. A typical PTO cable looks perfect for my application.

I used a throttle cable from a late 90's Honda CR250 dirt bike. I just made a special end for the inside of the cab and one for the pump side.
