I spotted this on allpar.com;

Six-speed manual transmission performance will be available with the 5. 7-liter HEMI V-8, in addition to the High Output Cummins Turbo Diesel, on 2005 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty pickups. The G56 six-speed manual transmission replaces the NV4500 five-speed and NV5600 six-speed manual transmissions. This new six-speed transmission features a dual-trunnion shift tower which provides a compact shift pattern with optimal mechanical advantage for shifting. Double-cone synchronizers in First through Fourth and Reverse gears provide high-capacity and long-term durability. A two-piece, die-cast aluminum case with an integral clutch housing provides optimal stiffness and minimizes noise, vibration and harshness. A multi-rail, all-steel shift system provides precise shift feel. The 6. 29:1 First-gear ratio provides better launch performance for an improved experience under heavily loaded and trailer tow conditions. There are also power take off access covers on both sides of the transmission.

I don't know if this is good or bad. :rolleyes:

it might prove to be a stout transmission

Let's hope so, that new Getrag is going to have some pretty big shoes to fill. Our beloved NV5600 has been second to none in the durability department. Plenty of folks running upwards of 1000 lbs. of torque through them with minimal complaints. I sure hope the folks at DC crossed the T's and dotted the I's with this move.

Has anyone actually seen an 05 with a 6-speed to see if they are putting the NV-5600 or the new getrag in them? The order code for the 05 6-speed is different than the 04's, but according to Tommygun, the 05's are still getting the NV-5600.

Yes, I need to know the answer to that as well. I want the NV 5600. A dealer salesman told me that manuals are built in 1st and 4th quarter. Then I heard that the gutrag was coming in late 05's which concerns me if I want to wait until spring to summer. TOMMYGUN, please answer or someone else who knows for sure

manuals are built in 1st and 4th quarter.

I really doubt that. That would mean that no manuals would be built for 6 months. I suspect that they build autos and manuals back to back all the time, unless there is a parts shortage of one or the other of them. There are way too many options on these trucks to restrict any specific option to a given time period.

In any case, I hope you are able to get exactly what you want.

No 05's with standard shifts on the lot up here yet. The new trans would be really easy to spot as it has an aluminum case as opposed to the cast iron that NV used.

I talked with a salesperson at Dodge today (who rarely know the full truth) and he said the NV 5600 would be specified for all of 05. I tend to believe that, as 06 is supposed to be configured differently (4 full doors etc). I would think that they would not want to make a drivetrain change mid year, as that will effect the way the whole truck gets built. In turn, forcing programming changes to the welding compueters, etc, etc...

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I crawled under some manual trucks last night and they were NV 5600's. The guy at the dealership said that there wasn't the option on his computer to select the Getrag with the Cummins, but you can select it with the Hemi. However, if you look at the 2005 brochure, on one of the pages they are talking up a new six speed with the Cummins for late availability. I believe that the option will change in Jan. I am going to order a new 05 next week so that it gets built prior to the "Gutrag". I wanted to wait, but the Gutrag issue has me scared. The only person who may know the real answer is Tomeygun, but I haven't seen him on the board. I even tried to call him yesterday but he was out. The dealership guys around here don't know anything about this. They say that TDR knows before they do. All I know is that I am ordering a new truck next week, because this issue has me worried.

you are correct, the new 6-spd is slated fora january build, as with most "late avail. " issues

the 05's i have here are positively the "DEE-nv5600"'s
