NV5600 is in!!!

On Geno's website, they offer among other things, a manual transmission filter. What is this filter, and do we have them on the NV5600? Is this an "add-on" or is there one in my transmission from the factory?

Boy, just when I thought I knew it all, too... :p

As I understand it, it is kind of like a lint trap on a dryer. The lube gets slung on the case wall and drains thru the filter material. No pumps or anything. I also think it will only work on one side of the case due to the rotation of the gears. It just attaches to one of the PTO covers.

I've been using that kit on my 5 speed for close to 4 years now. I never heard that it could only be used on one side of the transmission. Mine is installed on the passenger side.

Due to the rotation of the gears in the transmission, the filter should be mounted on the passenger side of the 5sp. And because that's the side I have mine on.

It goes in place of the PTO cover on the transmission on that side. It does work. It's actually an Eaton Fuller part so it's not "junk". How effective it is, I don't know. I wanted the extra fluid capacity and the filtering was a plus. Works on any transmission with a PTO cover.

JT, you really should pay more attention to what's on my truck when you visit. That would save you from asking such questions. :p

How well does it work?

Had one on mine before the wreck and it had been chgd 3xs in 100 thou. The fluid was clean and reusable (if I would have saved it) from the samples I took. It does the job and we put it on another unit w/ a bad trans. It cleaned up the fluid some in about 500 miles (about 1/3 of the gunk) before the trans was replaced (both were 5 spds - not that it matters). Had the temp sender mounted in the dimple (which was a mistake - too cool) and never saw more than a 125*. Next manual will have it also - sure beats having the "junk" cirk-u-late with the gears.

just another 0. 015$ of mine (gave my mind away years ago in pieces)

The instructions do say to mount it on the right side. I had 40k on Amsoil 2000 75-90 when I swapped out the transmission due to 5th and some other problems. Filter had a fair amount of "waxy smeg" on it. It also adds additional oil capacity. 8 ounces I think.

The Eaton Fuller filter uses a scoop that is quite close to the PTO drive gear to force oil through the filter. Since the filter replaces the PTO cover the element cannot be changed without draining the oil. Genos recommends mounting on the RH side but I also noticed in the Eaton Fuller application guide that in some other applications the filter mounts upside down on the LH side. One other thing about the filter, since it must be close to the gear it won't work with Fastcooler's.
