manual transmission filter

has anybody put a manual transmission filter kit on there transfer case ?

I see no reason for a filter on a manual transmission. Just change the trans oil at the recommended intervals.

I've used one for years on my NV4500HD. I change the oil at regular intervals and the filter at the same time. The new filter goes in white and when changed comes out black. I also run a trans cooler on the drivers side to increase capacity.

I put one on a NV5600 last summer and a high mounted fill plug on my pto cover. I had to rebuild the trans. I only had one bearing go bad (it disintegrated) but until you catch the problem the metal filings are being tossed around screwing up the other parts. I bought the one from Quad 4x4 outfit it has two killer magnets with it, which I think are every bit as important as the filter. I haven't changed the oil yet, but I look at it like a bit of insurance. I didn't like doing that trans. I thought about one for the transfer case, it can't hurt. I had spent about a $500 on the trans parts plus a clutch, that hurt. I figured I would wait and see what the one looked like in the trans. On all of the transfer cases I have rebuilt I have never seen a oil related problem unless it was full of mud.

I have had one on my NV4500 for 4 years and will second what the others that have said. I like the extra capacity that the filter has and the face of it is a great place for magnets.

I've had one on my Getrag 360 for the last 60K or so with synthetic fluid and it's still tight and silent.

thanks for the info guys ive have been wantin the filter since i got this truck with a manual transmission i figure as hard as i use em every little bit of protection helps .

can somebody tell me what side of the nv 4500 to put the filter i just got my filters and there are no instructions to tell what side of the transmission to put the flter on i got them from genos they emailed me instructions but they wont download

It goes on the passengers side of the transmission. Did it come with instructions on what goes where in the installation sequence? If not the inner plate mounts with the scoop facing in towards transmission itself. The thinner gasket goes between the transmission and the inner plate, next is the cork gasket then the filter and filter housing and bolts to the pass side of the transmission. I use silicone gasket sealant between the trans and first plate - on both metal surfaces but not on either side of the cork gasket.

thanks for the reply ya i got the factory instructions not very helpful , kinda figured that the scoop went towards the trany but wasnt sure .
