Changed the filter after 45,000 miles. Couldn't believe the amount of small/fine bronze particles there were in the cover/filter.

Thinking of installing a filter on the transfer case?

Removing the paper gasket from the splash plate was a royal PITA.

I'm glad you brought it up

I been wondering if I should do it... ..... thanks for the head's up... ... ... ... ... ... ..... Kevin:)

I have the PTO plate filter. Had about 30-40k on Amsoil 2000 when I swapped out the transmission. I could not believe the amount of "smeg" on the filter. Cheap insurance IMHO. It works by capturing the oil as it splashes up. Make sure you mount it on the right side. Also adds 8oz more capacity.

I like the spray gasket remover. Some work better than others. I was not impressed by NAPA's. Got some from my Case dealer but don't remember the brand. Took off rust and everything though.

Easy, no. The only reason I found it was I had the transfer case apart to repair a different problem. I think you have to drain and split the case to get to the filter. My filter was gummed up pretty bad after 50k miles.
