did dodge put the getrag manual transmission in second gen trucks or only in first gens?

Yes, they are strong. It is the NV 4500. The only 2 problems are; 1, the 5th gear spins it self off of the Mainshaft. There is a kit to fix this, and I think there was a TSB form Mopar on this. 2, The NV 4500 uses a hard to find lube, called Castrol Syntorq® LT. QUAD 4 x4 has lots of good stuff on their web page for this Gearbox;

My 99 Dodge fifth gear went out also 2 by4?

I knew this was a problem that Dodge did not want to pay for fixing. My brother In laws Dodge truck 4 by 4 went out also. I went to the dealer about my 5 speed and they said that my truck was a two wheel drive and they did not have that problem. Mine went out at 79,000. Now I only had to pull the tail shaft to fix mine and Dodge would not fix It. This Is a problem on all 5 speed. I now got a new 6 speed dually 2 wheel drive. What problems should I expect?

Ken, did you switch your 5 speed to a six speed? Or did you just get a new truck with the 6?
