all of a sudden to me, it seems a lot of people are having issues with timing/slipped timing. I was curious what is the right torque on that nut. I know the book says 144 ft lbs & some people say that's to low, so what's the correct #?
144 lbs is more than enough torque on the nut. The key to keeping it from slipping is to thoroughly clean the shaft and gear hub area of all oil and drying it out. I think that was mentioned in your other thread.
I always liberally spray brake cleaner between the shaft and gear hub and blow it out with compressed air 3 times before I set the timing and snug the nut to spec. Never had one slip yet.
After sparying the shaft, will you need to change the oil or will the spray just burn off once at temp? I am assuming the very slight bit you would use would not matter but I would be a little afraid of the chlorine in the brake cleaner.
