could you have a map on its way out and have no codes?

has anyone run into this before? if so how did the truck act.

the reason i ask is i think i have one on it's way out but i have no codes

Funny that you should have that happen, I just this minute finished changing my MAP sensor.

I noticed my truck had reduced power, lower boost, lower EGT, and was getting poor milage. I was barely able to hear the turbo. Yet, no codes.

After checking everything such as turbo, hoses and clamps, and reading some comments posted by other TDR members, I figured it was the MAP.

DC dealer here in Canada wanted $213 for it, non in stock, Cummins had no stock so I called Cummins Northeast in Maine, they shipped one direct from Factory in Memphis ( $72) to my address in Houlton, Me.

After install truck is back to its old self, power, turbo whistle Etc. :-laf

Good luck with yours

Rick

RIck

what did you see in boost and egt's with your map gone?

was it a big difference with the new map

did you see any thing else with the map gone?

Well like good day eh!

Stupid me, I don't have a boost guage, yet !!!

As such all I can really tell you about boost level is that the turbo was barley audiable. Normally it is quite load, as the silencer ring has run away from home.

The EGT I can tell you about, there was no way I could get the egt over 800 ( TST2 Off) no matter how bad I drove, or what load or gear I used. With the new MAP, I can load it up to 1000. With the TST2 on, and with bad MAP, about 900 was top egt temp, were as with a good MAP, a load and a long grade I could run the egt over 1200+ , until I lifted throttle.

under this 1200 deg, load and grade condition, the turbo is quite loud ( wife does not like it)

Same grade with bad MAP , about 900 max, no power and need to drop a gear.

I have a 24' gooseneck ( 9000lbs), west bound ( into the wind)on the marsh ( between NB and NS) with bad MAP ... 100km/hr top speed, with good MAP, truck will pull what ever speed you want.

the cummin's part number for my '01 is 3417030, call Cummins dealer with engine serial number to be certain. They might tell you that it's an order from US factory item only.

Good luck

One more thing, I usually get about 18mpg ( imp gallon) with the trailer on, but with the bad MAP, it fell down to 12-13. That was really my fist indication , plus I was downshifting on hill that I never did before.

And to add insult to injury, I was passed by an old Mack. :(

have fun!!! ;)

Hmmm

I think this is possible. I accidentally unplugged my MAP one day and got the MIL. Hooked up my Harison R&D OBD2 unit and cleared the code. Software said operation failed and still showed a MAP problem but the light went off. I think maybe my Raptors boost fooler messes things up. Lately my truck seems to have a mind of its own. Some days it really feels powerful, other days it feels a little sluggish. I am going to try replacing the MAP sensor and see what happens.
