Well here's the deal... after 2 other posts (no replies on either post) regarding attempts to get a MAP sensor from Cummins, I finally got the story. Cummins Atlantic Richmond (don't go there by the way) told me that the MAP sensor is strictly an OEM part. I couldn't believe Cummins sends an electronically controlled engine out the door without one of it's most critical sensors. Anyhow, this weekend I ran up to Glen Burnie, MD for the Mason Dixon TDR get together and talked with the boys at the Cummins shop there. Great shop by the way... very friendly and knowledgeable. They had a Cummins MAP sensor (turbo boost sensor) in my hands in no time. As I suspected, it was normally about 1/3 of the Dodge price. They were having a special deal for our event so I got it about 1/5 the Dodge price. Anyhow, short side is the part is available from Cummins and it is, as usual, significantly cheaper.

P. S. EVERY part that I've checked out at Dodge has been 3 to 5 TIMES the price at Cummins. There should be a law against that crap. How can they possibly justify that kind of markup?

Yeah, try $48 for a fuel filter, that's what the dealerships here want for one. I can get it for $17-18 at Cummins, or less at Geno's Garage.

As for Cummins Atlantic , no surprise there either. My closest Cummins shop is in Louisville, 80 miles away, Cummins Cumberland. Their dayshift parts dept. is awful, surly , unfriendly, unhelpful. Happened to go by there at night a few months ago to get a lift pump (they're open till 2:00 a. m. weeknights) and the night shift guys were fantastic, I made a few new friends. Go figure.

Help me out here, Guys. I'm in SW Pennsylvania about 20 minutes south of Pittsburgh. Where is the nearest Cummins shop to me or how can I find out. I don't have any problems that need adressed right this moment, but I'd much rather go to Cummins for parts in the future. Dodge rips you off for parts!

Thanks, -Ron

Ron, call the one in Harrisburg, they are also a shipping warehouse and will UPS it. Most times it only takes about 2 days to get stuff. I live is SE pa, about 1. 5 hours from Harrisburg and its still cheeper to plan ahead and get the stuff shipped.

Were you able to get a part number that we can give to a Cummins parts supplier? The one near me is a Freightliner dealer and they usually dont' know or don't want to reference DC stuff, so I need a PN when I give them a call.

VAMAN, Just down the road here in VA. Bch. there are

a lot of Authorized Dealers... . Haven't needed anything

yet, but if you had the P/N bet they would be interested

in your business?!? R, JBone;)

Engine number helps.

Give the Cummins dealer you're engine number, tell them it's in a Dodge and they can find the Cummins part number without a hitch. Just picked up two fuel filters and a thermostat that way.

The part number is 3348747 and it's 40-50 bucks from Cummins (that's 150 bucks in the Dodge world). Not sure if it's the same for all model years.

Bone, thanks for the info... I'll have to swing by your way and check it out.

Rattlin, that's the way it's supposed to work. One guy at Cummins Atlantic Richmond couldn't even get me the right fuel filter... I had to go into their store room to find it myself. They had my engine S/N and still told me that the MAP sensor was a OEM only part.

Just for the record on Cummins Atlantic Richmond:

- sold me the wrong oil filters

- had no idea what fuel filter I needed

- claimed the MAP sensor didn't exist as far as Cummins saw it

- sent me a fuel connector tube with a messed up seating surface and gave me a hard time when I told them about it. I ended up just ordering another one and eating the cost plus shipping for the first one. It was easier than dealing with them.

Now those Cummins boys in Glen Burnie were fantastic... they're just a phone call away. Cya Richmond. :D

Vaman, guess from our two experiences we can say there are Cummins dealers and there are Cummins dealers. The closest Cummins authorized dealer is a Ford truck center. The parts guy researched it and gave me what I think he said was about the third iteration of the part number. Took him a bit and he didn't have the part. I think you guess where I'll try to get the next batch of stuff for the engine. I ended up at the main distribution center that wasn't nearly as close(> 45 miles) but the parts and service center is open M-F 'til 11PM.
