I talked with my service guy and he said that you don't have a map sensor. Which is what I would have thought but I won't be able to follow up till around Wed. Maybe you are using a book that is incorrect as to the code. See if you can find someone with ALL DATA. That is a computer program that has tons of info on vehicles. Our trucks included.
According to the codes I have for that ECU code 14 reads "Electronic control module program check failure". In simpler terms it sounds like the ECU is pooched. The same ECU's were used in gassers and diesels with some of the funtions being disabled by the version of flash used. I think the MAP sensors started with the fully computerized systems and VP pump.
If the ECM was trashed wouldn't other problems be there also ???
Maybe not trashed. Mine went in steps. The first thing was the OD in and out problem. Later the alternator voltage control and about the same time the air conditioning. All of it intermittent. I still don't know if the PCM is bad or if there is a electrical problem feeding the PCM. Without a positive test on the computer there is no way to know. I was talking to a salvage dealer about the computer and he checked the national listing and said there are three in the US available (used).
I have a switch to controll the OD and the AC and an aftermarket voltage controller on the alternator. As you know that is not on the blue truck as it is manual. We talked about so much the other day that I am not sure I said that the PCM was a problem on the 92 1/2. I really don't know what to do except change the $$$$$$ PCM and hope for the best. The computer according to the guy that helps me with that sort of problem is not new enough to have the ability to tell you what is wrong with itself. Apparently the newer ones can.
Everytime the key is turned on the ECM goes thru a self-check to verify it is functioning correctly. This could constitue checking feeds from different sources and verifying the internal register check sums come back correctly after initialization. There could be a host of reasons the error is being thrown from a bad ground or bad connection to internal memory starting to go bad. I take it you have pulled the battery cable for several minutes to clear the code register and the code reappears. Does it turn the console lights on and they stay on constantly or is it just showing up when you dump the codes.
The ECM's are available in reman units from AutoZone and Schucks that I know of and are not that badly priced. You can also buy them over the web at reman dealer. You will need the number of the unit to order the correct one for the application as there were subtle differences in each model. If it is not manifesting any problems I would just drive it till something happens that can be traced.
No I havent tried to dump the code by disconnecting the batt. I was told that wouldn't dump the codes, That you needed a DRB II scan tool to clear the codes. ?? Any way, It only displayed this code when I dumped it last time. No others were displayed.
I am looking for a lack of "zip" I get what seems to be good boost numbers 10-28 depending on acceleration effort. ie STOMPED on it or just accelerated normally. Fuel filter Hasn't been changed yet... . got to get one first No the eng light is NOT lit at all.
The ECM is OBDI so it doesn't need a scan tool to read or dump the codes. The OBDII systems were not installed until 1996. Disconnecting the battery for three minutes will power down the volatile RAM and erase the stored codes. The only codes should be a 55 to start the dump sequence and a 55 to end the dump sequence. If it is not turning on the console lights it is not a critical code for operation. It could be a bad memory chip or possibly a flash that is not correct. Either way unless it is turning on console lights or there are other issues developing I wouldn't worry too much.
The ECM won't have an effect on engine performance as all it does is control power train components. Rightly it should be called a PCM but the naming conventions don't always apply to all years. Am not positive but I don't think the KSB is controlled thru ECM either. I think it si dependent on coolant temp to adjust. Make sure fuel filter and air filter is clean. With an auto you could just be loosing the zip due to wear and miles. The stock converters are a POS and after a while they just seem to get worse.
