I am a 12v guy, but my Dad has a 2002 24v. He is having intermitent low power problems. It seems to be getting worse. Truck runs fine with normal amount of power, then all of a sudden he said it looses most of its power. Not enough power to keep up in trafic. Turn truck off and it is OK for a bit. A search on low power has led me to these abreviations, MAP, TPS, IAT, ECM. The only one I am familiar with is the TPS because I am in the middle of a ferocious battle with mine on my old goat. ECM is the same as what I call the PCM on my 12v? Where is the MAP and AIT and how do I check, clean, replace them. What are they? Any other ideas on what is going on. He has replaced the fuel filter and added lots of anti-gel. Does not seem to be ambiant tempnature related. He has an edge ez also. Thanks!

The MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor, AFAIK is not cleanable/servicable. The AIT (air intake temp) sensor can be removed and cleaned and re-installed. Apply dieletric(sp?)-grease to the connectors when re-installing. It's a good idea to remove all electric connectors and grease them every now and again, epsecially in the cold/wet/icy/nasty weather you get up there.

Thanks guys. I should be able to clean a few connections up. Even figgured out what the apps is with that handy pic! And where the ecm is. Will check back in if cleaning does not work and need to do a little testin.

I would agree with checking fuel pressure, sounds like a pump to me too. As we all know, the lift pumps are junk on the 24V so that may be the source of the problem. If you run long enough with a bad LP, you'll screw your injector pump as well. Good luck.

Cleaning all these connections did not solve the problem. Now, he has an appointment booked for next week at a dealership. They told him to bring all of his fuel filter change receipts. Already trying to weasel out of it... ... ... ...

When my 02 was doing the same thing, I found the fuel pump strainer in the tank full of "stuff". Cleaned it and it has been fine since.

My 01' had that sort of problem at 5000 miles, just after I installed the K&N filter, but turned out to be a MAP sensor ,And Just recintly found out air filters with that are oil soaked coat the end of the MAP sensor and cause it not work right .

Moose

Swamp Donky, I ran iinto a guy from Fort ST. James who was teaching his 3 year old daughter that a Moose was called a Swamp Donkey. First time I heard of it , he was getting a big laugh out of it. Sorry for being off topic.

fuel filter reciepts

I was talking to my nephew in northern Alberta who is a Mechanic at a Dodge Dealer and he warned me to keep my bills for my fuel filters. Apparently Chrysler is telling the dealers that if the owners don't have proof that they are changing their fuel filters every 20,000 klms(12,500 miles), then they will not Warranty the VP44. If you do your own filter changes, keep your bills.
