Marathon Fuels

Hello, we have company account at a local Marathon fuel ststion and we fill up all our trucks,2000 BERING 3. 8 VM Motori diesel :--) and a 92 Mitsubishi Fuso 4 cyl. and never really had any fuel related problems. :-laf

Now that i'm getting my Ram with a CUMMINS DIESEL Oo. i was curious on the quality of Marathon diesel fuels. I had 2gen and it would run quieter on Mobil or Texaco fuel, so any info or advice please feel free to chime in

BTW i plan on using Valvoline fuel addative or PS or Stanadyne

MY whole fleet fuels at marathons, through the Superfleet card. We are happy with the fuel quality as a whole, but have gotten some watery fuel at smaller stations.

yes we have a good station and only fuel there we know the owner personally.

What engine that durango has, a 5. 9 gas pig, last ram (02 1500 5. 9) i had was also a gas pig had to fill up every 220 miles 22-24 gals.

There's a marathon station about 1 mile from my house with a diesel pump. I see lots of people fueling up there, and I've run several tanks of it. But usually I go 15 miles south to a Pilot truckstop. Someone (I think it was LightmanE300) mentioned having tested some Marathon fuel and found it to be of very low quality. I can neither confirm nor deny this. I don't notice any particular difference between the Marathon and the Pilot as far as how the truck runs. I just prefer the Pilot because that's where the truckers go.

I just changed my fuel filter after purchasing almost exclusively Marathon fuel plus an ocxasional tank of biodiesel. It looked relatively clean, and I think I'll actually extend the interval next time. I've been happy with their fuel, except for one watery tank I didn't get at my normal station.

i always use Marathon. I consistently get 1-2 MPG better. Compared to Speedway or Admiral. I definitely notice a differeance in that regard.

Ryan yes it was me. The marathons around here are absolutely pitiful, and I've read similar reports from other areas. Marathon is just regular #2, bottom of the barrel, cheapest stuff possible. I actually had a tank ruin a set of my MB's injectors - it was awful.



Dwestfall - being that you live in Michigan, you should really do yourself a favor, call the folks at BP direct, and get the number for your local terminal. Then call the terminal and find out which stations near you carry Amoco Premier diesel. It's 50 cetane minimum, and a true premium diesel. It's kept separate from regular #2 every step of the way. You are lucky enough to live in a state where it's sold, you should take advantage! =]

Not disputing your test results, and I don't fuel at Marathon, but I've fueled all over the Western U. S. and driven a CTD since 1991. I've only had one bad load of fuel in all that time. An exceptional pretty young thing was the cashier and I was so busy looking at her I put 20 gallons of 87 octane gasoline in my '95 CTD! :--)



Luckily, I was only a couple of blocks from home. The only thing hurt was my pride and the need to siphon 30 gallons of dieseline from the truck. :-laf At least it didn't go to waste. I'd dump five gallons in our old 454 Suburban every so often. It didn't mind.

Could try asking the manager, but the best bet is to ask the fuel tanker driver where he loads from. I love hearing about guys fueling at different stations or not using a particular one, when the same fuel is in the ground at them. Ask the tanker driver where he loads from and what stations he services. Just don't go up to him with a lit cigarette.

Yep, I know how that works. My brother has driven a fuel tanker for many years. He works for a local oil distributor who owns about a dozen "branded" and "non-branded" stations. He fills at the Chevron rack one day, and possibly the Texaco or Shell rack the next day. It depends on the wholesale price, availability, and the number of tanker trucks lined up to fill at the rack.

I did. There are no BP diesel stations near here. Oh well.
