Competition 6spd ETs??

Competition video of ripon

from what I hear....

From what I hear, the marine cam will be ok to go a little higher on the RPM scale, but because of the governer on our trucks, it can't be done. Not really much of a gain in terms of profile. If you are intrested in Cams, I would go to Enterprise Engine insted of Diesel Dynamics because they have more options on cams then just one.

Just a thought,

Jeepthing,

I just talked to Al (who works with Piers) the other day and he said the marine cam works awesome! Up to 2 mpg. increase in fuel economy, almost instant turbo spool up ,less black smoke, and at least 200 degrees lower egt's. and 500 more rpm's.

He said this cam gives as much lift as you can get out of the valves without cutting your pistons to clear the valves. I don't know if he meant with stock head gasket, or 20 thou. over head gasket. You might be able to get more lift than the marine cam gives if you have a 20 thou. thicker head gasket. I havent had that clarified yet. Either way, it sounds a lot better than the stock cam.

The bad thing about the marine cam is that it won't go back in with your factory gear and parts. You have to buy the cam, a new gear, retainer, and a few other things. The price got up pretty quick and I didn't see it as being justifiable when you can get a custom cam from certain places that are cheaper and perform better. Some body could call Piers (I think he has a book on the marine) and get an engine number for the marine. Then call Cummins and get a price.

I wonder if the marine cam could be used to spec a regular 12/24v cam? Sounds Like I need to give Piers a call and get more info. I got the itch. . 500 here I come;) :p :D
