Does any one have or Know where I can find the part # for the Marine headgasket? Or where I might be able to order it?

TDR#25, p43. See, there is some technical content in my articles #ad

3283335
3283337, +0. 010" thick
3283339, +0. 020"
You can get it from Cummins #ad

Ok, I'll show my lack of knowledge when it comes to engine mods.

Am I correct in assuming that the marine gasket is thinner and will allow higher compression and hence, higher horsepower.

Thanks for the education,
Ryan

Anyone out there have a lead on a copper, or thicker gasket than the marine application? I have several companies I plan on contacting tomorrow, but if someone has already pursued this, any information would be greatly appreciated.

Standard marine gasket thickness is same as regular (and regular is now superceded by the marine part), around 0. 06"

Lower static compression is offset by higher boost pressure. To keep cylinder pressures within the ability of the engine to stay together, high performance diesels use lower compression. That is why race diesels are hard to start--static compression is low and does not work-heat the air much on the compression stroke, so it is not hot enough to burn the fuel well.

Joe,
Thanks for the reply, and info on gaskets. After this post I saw BPine's post about blown headgaskets, and got the numbers from that,Which prooves once again, you can usually find what you're looking for, if you'll just read far enough.

Call up mike at auto wurks diesel he put the marine gasket on mine about a month ago just give him a call. (973) 226-7800

Still not as fast as my 97 VIPER GTS (AND NEVER WILL BE).

I bought the head gasket as Joe mentioned but was told this is an updated Part# for all B series Cummins engines not necessarily marine.

Okay... let me get this straight.

So if I call Cummins and ask for a new head gasket... . I'm automatically going to receive a marine head gasket and get the lower compression?

Matt - a bit confused

The standard thickness marine gasket 3283335 is what you get for any B engine now. You have to specify the thicker gasket by part number if you want it--it has the same red goo sealer on it, etc. as the standard thickness gasket--install them DRY, I use lacquer thinner to clean the head and block after scraping thoroughly. The marine engines get the lower compression from the pistons they use.

Ooooooh, okay!

Now this all makes sense... .

So, I need the marine THICKER headgasket and then I'll be able to turn up the boost more (with more fuel, of course... ).

Matt - lower static compression ratio = more boost for me!
