Thanks, TDR Staff

Competition how many 600hp singles turbo'd

Competition Diesel Dragster anyone?

any body know the weight differance in the the marine piston and a normal pistion or does any one have a eng number so that I can look it up thanks George

I don't know what the weight difference is if any, but the marine 370B pistons should come with the teflon coated skirts. Also, I think that they lower compression.

Russell

If they lower compression... . one would assume that they aren't as 'tall' as the 215hp pistons (so long as the con-rods and everything else is the same... )... . which would make them slightly lighter.

It would be kinda advised to use a Diamond-B 370hp style injector with these pistons - they have a different bowl shape.

Good luck with your research!

Matt

i believe the combustion area is much bigger and this lowers comp. down to 15. 5/1. The height should be the exact same between all pistons, that would affect the blocks deck height if not. The marine pistons i think are also ceramic coated. For my build-up i choose the 215 pistons and had them flycut for valve clearance, as well as ceramic coated and the skirts are moly coated. Call Piers, he'll set you straight.

Here is some information out of one of my cummins marine books this is on the 370B(SW) engine

engine power 370

rated engine speed 3000

idle speed 550-650

torque622

brake means effective pressure 261

compression ratio 15. 3. 1

bore & Stroke 102[4. 02]x119[4. 72]

c. g. distance from front face of block(engine only) 13. 3

c. g. Distance above Crankshaft Centerline (engine only) 6. 6

camshaft 3930378 piston 3866410, 3935591

In my engine cerification manual all of the 5. 9 marine engines from 250 hp to 370 hp are using the same piston part numbers

engines covered 250,280,315,330,370.

I hope this information is of some value

Is there a 'reverse' rotation 6BT for boats with twin engines?

I have heard folk tales of people buying a used gasser marine engine and having their car go like heck in reverse!

That's some great info... .

I should have said the size or height of the bottom of the bowl... not the actual top of the piston... . my bad. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not really into the reciprocating assembly side of things... .

Matt

Matt my engines turn the same direction on both sides. The Transmission changes the direction the props are turning. From what I have read the crank determines the travel of the piston if all of the pistons are the same in the different horse power of marine engines.

Lots of marine engines, left and right rotation.

Be careful if you are buying one!

It does seem to make more sense to do it with a gearbox, though. ,

BTW, the timing is 22* Advanced too :D The 15. 3:1 is important to notice too, think more boost :)

Beware of the blown head gasket from lowering the compression with a thicker headgasket. The gasket can't hold the pres. like steel can.

", and since the engines usually outlast the truck body, there isn't much market for them as replacement engines. !"

The dude don't have a clue about that part, do he George?

The way he talks, there is 5. 9s just stacked up out there, waiting for the crusher.

:D
