Here's my situation:

I made a center console to take the place of my fold - down cupholders. I'm going to install gauges when I can afford them. I can afford the switches I want to mount, so I bought some lighted toggles at the Western Star dealer. The first one I'm installing is a marker light interrupt switch. It's a momentary - off switch and is spring loaded to the on position. No problem wiring the switch, but I need to find a wire to cut to run through the switch that interrupts all the marker lights but not the headlights. Can one of you guys look in your shop manuals and see if there is such a wire?

I have a '99 2500 QC LB sport with the clearance lights on the roof and factory fog lights in the bumper. I also have the interior light group with the overhead lights and computer. When I turn the marker lights on, I get at least three wires powered that weren't powered before on the back of the headlight switch.

I'll post pictures of the center console when I'm done. It turned out better than I could have hoped.

Thanks for your help in advance.

The one you want is 16 gauge BK/YL and you can find it on the back of the headlight switch in Pin 1.

How many amps is the momentary switch you bought rated at?

Evan,

I bought the switch at a Western Star dealership. The only marking on the switch is 18V. I'm kind of making the assumption that if it can handle the lights on an 18 - wheeler, that it should be able to handle the lights on my Ram. If it uses a relay though, my logic is faulty of course. It's only $7. 00 for the switch, so I figured I'd give it a try.

So you think that that one wire will switch all the markers huh? How sure are you? There's about 12 or so wires coming out of the back of my headlight switch and three of them energize when the switch is switched to marker lights.

DMKelly, thats the one I used and it controls a relay (I guess so the headlite sw isnt over loaded with a tow). Os when I hit my sw all the markers go out (trailer and truck)

Hope it works on yours, as mine is a y2k and we KNOW the changes arent all documented.

SOTSU!!

Update!

Had the Blk/Yellow wire in pin #1, got my courage up and cut the darned thing. Sure enough, that's the one and the interrupt switch works as advertised. Thanks for the help guys.

Sorry for my ignorance, but why would you want to momentarily interrupt the marker lights but still leave the headlights on???

Thanks,

Ryan

I used to be a truck driver and always liked that switch that interrupted the marker lights only. It's handy when you want to thank someone for flashing their headlights to let you know that you can pull over into their lane after passing them.
