Mars Exploration

I came across this web site put out by NASA. It shows all the latest photos and even has some in 3D (You need the 3D glasses that were popular in the 50’s with the red and blue lenses. ) But there are plenty of standard color and black and white photos. It looks like they will be adding new pictures as they become available.

This site probably should be avoided by anyone using a dial up Internet connection unless you have time to kill.

I thought it was interesting that some scientists on the news were claiming that they found life on Mars within minutes of the craft landing. In any case, it looks to be a successful mission.

Great site... it is just so cool that this lander worked. I watched the live feed from mission control on the NASA channel the other night just as the rover was going into the atmosphere of Mars. . very cool.

On a side note, I think the pics with stuff blacked out are just pics that did not get transmitted all the way or are missing sections. Most of the pics are composites of a bunch of photos, and these seem to be missing some.

If anyone sees a picture that has the little lego astronaut in it let me know, I want to see him. The story is that there is a lego astronaut on that lander somewhere.

Actually the blacked out segments are hiding the photo of the Martian they found. Here is the missing segment.

Almost wet my pants on that last one! :D

We had a live mountain cam in our area for checking the current weather conditions. Once a spider built a nest right in the lens and another time the lens filled up with water during a big rain storm. Have not seen it go back on the air sense.

TPCdrafting, I was wondering if anyone would recognize Marvin. He is one of my favorite Looneytoons characters.

I hope they get the communications thing figured out. Here is the latest info from NASA.

Ground controllers were able to send commands to the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit early Wednesday and received a simple signal acknowledging that the rover heard them, but they did not receive expected scientific and engineering data during scheduled communication passes during the rest of that martian day.

Project managers have not yet determined the cause, but similar events occurred several times during the Mars Pathfinder mission. The team is examining a number of different scenarios, some of which would be resolved when the rover wakes up after powering down at the end of the martian day (around midday Pacific time Wednesday).
