I have a 2001. 5 with a Cummins. I started, as a lot of people recommended using on here, PowerService additive and noticed it made the truck smoke quite a bit at idle. So, I went to the local Tractor Supply Store looking for other types of additives. They only had two other types, one was Pyroil, the other Marvel Mystery Oil. I picked up a couple of containers of Pyroil and added one at my last fill up and noticed pretty quick the truck stopped smoking at idle and also runs more smoothly, seems like their is more power, too. I wonder if anyone knows what they put in some fuel conditioners, like Pyroil, that keep your truck from smoking as much. Also was wondering if anyone knows anything about Marvel Mystery Oil. I've seen it on the shelves since I was a small boy, and I know it's been around at least 50 yrs... was wondering, what's it good for? It says on the can to add to diesel fuel. I'd love to know what it is, what it does and how good it does it, since it doesn't tell you on the can. It seems to be a, well, mystery... can anyone clear it up?

Thanks

I used to spray it into the solenoids on my old juke boxes when they were sticking. Made 'em work like a charm!

bigfig,
Don't quote me but I've beleive I read some where(and also here) that Marvel Mystery Oil is transmission fluid with out the dye. Some recommend it some don't. On the trucks with the cats the trans fluid defeats their purpose(what a shame). Some say it will decrease percentage of cetan which will give you less power.
I used to use trans fuid in a couple of vehicles to clean out carb every oil change(1 qt to tank of gas every 3000 to 4000 miles). I use it as penetrating oil also.
Make sure it is recommended by Cummins.
The Pyroil sounds to be doing the job. See if they have web site for more info.
