Mason Dixon Chapter Christmas Tree

Mason Dixon Tdc Logo's Are Ready

thanks to all who have joined/re-joined us by paying your $10. 00 annual dues.

looks like we have about 40 couple members and our treasury fund is up to approx. $500.

i will soon be putting together an offical members list and mailing(snail mail) it out to everyone who gave me their address.

SPECIAL THANKS TO !!!

yo-hoot for the extra $10. donation to the treasury fund

rams-n-hogs,,extra $10.

and dLeonard for the extra $30.

also,,our new MASON DIXON CHAPTER website will soon be up and running.

new member rcooke designs websites for a living(along with metal fabrication on the side) and is going all out(on his own time for free) to make us a very cool site. it will have forums, classifieds,,pic galleries and all kinds of other neat stuff. just like a mini tdr site.

our plan is to turn our chapter into a big 3(dodge,ford,chevy) turbo diesel chapter. showing how we have all( big 3 ) played together without any problems at events etc gave us the idea to change the chapter around and hopefully make it grow.

we are also looking for a new name. being 3 brands will will need to drop tdr off our name and logo's but will still be a branch off the TDR. after reading chapter guidlines i don't think TDR will have a problem but i will talk to robin soon about it.

we would like to keep the "mason dixon turbo diesel" in our name,,but "mason dixon turbo diesel" what?? got an idea ?? lets hear it.

also going to be working on new logo's. most everyone i talk to likes the rebel/confederate flag but feels maybe it should be dropped from the new design.

any thoughts ?? comments ?? post 'em here.

don

don. sounds like alot of good ideas are going to make for an even better chapter! i however disagree with dropping the confederate flag. maybe you can make two different logos, one with and one without the flag. just my . 02

so? i agree with turbo diezel. some people including myself like that logo, and we can design another logo for those who dont. by the way im really likin the idea of this joinin of the big 3. got a couple of ferd boys who might be interested in something like this. and the website sounds too cool.

wes

there shouldn't be a problem at all adding the flags to our new logo for those who want them. like i said though,,we will be designing a new logo because we will have to drop TDR off ours if it's a big 3 turbo diesel club. most likely will be pretty close to what we have now,,just different lettering.

i keep saying "big 3"

how bout

MASON DIXON

"BIG 3"

TURBO DIESEL CLUB

sound like a winner for our new name ????

What is the meaning of the rebel flag? I have been told that it stands for the rebellion against freedom, I decided to cut the thing off. Might as well put a burning cross on the logo too. Some of you people don't know what freedom really means. To fly an American flag next to a Rebel flag is a discrace to America.

I said my piece. Flame away.

wow... ..... did this thread "go south"... no pun intended.

I am a fan of American history and all of its flags but I think Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon (Englishmen) who did the groundwork almost 100 years before the "Southern Rebellion/War of Northern Agression" took place, would be rather distraught over this thread.

In 1763, Mason and Dixon landed the monumental task of resolving an 80-year property dispute between the Calvert family of Maryland and Penn family of Pennsylvania, and were asked to lay stone markers indicating the boundary.

The boundary began at 15 miles south of the southern most tip of the city of Philadelphia and followed a constant latitude west to a point between western Pennsylvania and what we now call West Virginia. GPS measurements taken by Babcock and Knott, a member of MDLPP, reveal that the line was off the mark by as little as one inch in some places and never more than 800 feet.

Mason and Dixon used the stars to calculate this path through the wilderness and mark out the 233-mile-long boundary line between Pennsylvania and Maryland, and the 83 miles long north-south boundary between Maryland and Delaware; the effort took five years.

The stones—huge blocks of limestone between 3. 5 and 5 feet long and weighing between 300 and 600 pounds—were quarried in Southern Great Britain and shipped to America.

Carried by wagon to their final resting place on the line, the stones were placed at one-mile intervals. Mile markers were decorated with vertical fluting and a P on the north face and M on the southern face; every fifth mile along the line the stones were engraved with the Penn coat of arms on the Pennsylvania side and the Calvert coat of arms on the other.

The "Confederate Battle Flag" quite simply... ... is historically inaccurate. If one wants to have an emblem for the TDR that says "Mason Dixon" on it. It would be nice if you honored the actual history and included Penn Family coat of arms and the Calvert Family Coat of Arms. Or more easily you could use the Pennsylvania Flag which has the "Penn Family" Coat of Arms and the Maryland which has The red/white from the Calvert's maternal side of his family and the yellow/black from the Calvert family shield.

I like "Mason Dixon Turbo Diesel Club" or Mason Dixon Turbo Diesel Chapter and MDTDC for short where acronyms apply. The name MDTDR being changed to something like Mason Dixon Turbo Diesel Club or Chapter is appropriate since the big3 are all turbo diesels. This I believe blankets all three without mention of such.

In regards to the logo flags etc, once the forum is up perhaps Mason Dixon members can vote on topic such as these in the future.

I for one like the flags, however considering the ongoing controversy perhaps it best they go. I'm new to the Mason Dixon chapter and have heard enough to know its an issue whether it be bad or good its still a good amount of chatter surrounding them or at least on the one I should say. As a member whats important to me is that we all share a passion \ common intrest for diesel truck bombing and not political and or religious bombing.

I look forward to meeting all of you in the near future.

Rick

I apologize for turning this thread a little ugly but since it was mentioned in the topic to start I felt I could freely respond.

I have the emblem on my truck. I cut off the Rebel flag because I could. Just like you can keep it if you want. I know it's not there to promote the original intention of the Civil War, it's just there cause it an American icon that somehow signifies our right to protest.

It's the underlying reasons that turn me off. Freeing of the slaves. Americans killed fellow Americans because they didn't want to free slaves.

I'm sure you don't see too many Swastikas displayed in Germany anymore. Neither is a true symbol in itself of freedom but they are historical and very important reminders of who we are/were.

Flying the Confed flag is almost as bad as sporting a Democrat bumpersticker :D

I am glad to hear the new site is about done. I am looking forward to the change and the ability to use it to help us all stay in contact easier. Lets hope this is the start of something big and all work towards making it all fun.

Now on to some business and laundry... ...

I,like those who have been members here for a while or since the beginning, have seen the complaints about the flags and their reasons for not wanting them. The current logo should not be changed or redesigned till we have the new website up and rollin so all the MDTDC members can have a say it a new design. The only thing I wish is any new design is eye catching and flashy to help draw more members to our little group.

As for the flags and the reappearing controversy, its actually a easy fix, don't like either or both remove them or don't buy them with a flag. If you like the flag deal why not try a pair of Stars-N-Stripes instead. I have even had a request for the flag in question be replaced with a military branch flag. I am certain Iceman's designer can fix you up,just remember changes mean cost. For some reason I thought the flag controversy was done already,go figure.

I kinda like the Mason-Dixon Turbo Diesel Club as Richard said in his email. Its simple, easy and fits all the owners equally. Now if we can just get our non-paying members to decide to open their wallets and get square with us things will get even better.

Thanks to Richard,Don and all the dues paying chapter members things are getting better and looking up... ... ... Andy

I agree with Richard and Andy on changing it to Mason-Dixon Turbo Diesel Club, and for the flags keep the old one's for the guys who wish to have them and have a new style with the American flag in the middle with the Pennsylvania and Maryland state flags on either side to represent the Mason-Dixon line..... just an alternative idea... ... ..... John

first,,let me say that i personally helped design our current logo and didn't intend for the new logo issue to cause any arguments. i was just looking for feedback from the membership before i have my graphics man draw use up some logo's to choose from.

like rick posted,, as members of a club it is important that we share a passion/common interest in diesel trucks. thats what brought us together in the first place.

for now, we need to get the name changed so that rick can keep going with the site building. all the emails i have recieved since yesterday have stated no problem with being a big 3 chapter and changing our name. lots of

"leave the flags alone" stated though.

the new logo will most likely be real close to what we have now but have

MDTDC where TDR is

and MASON DIXON TURBO DIESEL CLUB in a half circle under the bottom.

to please everyone i will have them designed

*with flags as is,,american/rebel

*american with your state( pa,md,wv,) flag

*american with military branch(army,navy, marine,etc)

* two american flags

*no flags

the center of the logo and the club name under it will be the same for all.

do i have everyone covered ??

rick,,

go ahead and do what you need to do to keep building and use

MASON DIXON TURBO DIESEL CLUB MDTDC as our domain name.

for now,,use our current logo until i can get jpegs of our new designs.

there are a few of us who put alot of time and effort in trying to keep this chapter organized and to make it grow so don't think changes are due to our personal preferences because they are not. i know we will never make everyone happy but if everyone focuses on our common interest(diesel trucks) we will be able to make this a top notch #1 club that you and your family/friends can enjoy.

I think a new version of the "club" including all diesels is an awesome idea!!! Oo. I know you guy's don't bite :-laf , but I don't think other Ford/Chevy owners do and have probably felt like they would be looked down upon if they participated in events!! I truely believe this would make them feel more comfortable about showing up and participating!! :D

As for the flags, my personal opinion is that it should be an American flag sided by a Maryland and PA flag!!
