I can believe you couldn't open it after a bullet messed up the insides. The engineers where I work can pick a Master lock in less than a minute when they're in one piece though.
 
I am sure the lock would be ok if a pistol was fired at. (Non FMJ and like a 9MM) FMJ = Full Metal Jacket

But take a high powered rifle like a 300 Ultra Mag and all bets are off. I be it would put a nice hole in it.
 
over 30 years ago my father had a small argument w/a neighbor who happened to be a masterlock rep. that my dads hunting rifles would not bust open these locks, my father tried to explain that these . 30 caliber carbine's used in then ads were not representative of modern . 30 cal hunting rifles

but it fell on deaf ears. at the next neighborhood party (which happened to be @ the masterlock guys farm, my dad took three rifles a . 223 rem, a 30-06 & a . 378wm and at about 50yds. all three blew those locks to smitherines.
