Mattress recommendations for big guys?

Check out the firmest Sealy posturpedic, mine is still going strong and I am a good bit heavier. Some folks don't sleep well on a really hard mattress so if possible try before you buy. Sleeping on the floor on top of a thin cushion like a cot mattress would be a good simulation.

I bought a futon about 10 years ago and put it on a regular king-size frame. I haven't had a back pain since. They are very firm. If you can't find one in the size you want any futon factory can custom make one. Make sure you don't get one with foam layers in it. A real futon is layer after layer of linen. Four or five inches thick should be about right.

We went and bought a TempurPedic. It's a good mattress. I'm 5'8" and 190 lbs. I like a firm mattress and it works pretty good. I don't toss and turn like I used to and I can lay on my stomach and read and not have my back hurt. My girlfriend complains that my side is softer because she isn't heavy enough to make the bed conform to her as much as it does for me. She's about 115 lbs.



BTW, It'll probably throw your back out trying to move it. The friggin' thing weighs a ton!

Muddyboots has a good idea with that futon, I have been contemplating getting one for my office for TV and studying since I have trouble finding a couch or chair that is firm enough for my taste. While looking at 'em I was thinking they would be great to sleep on for bad backs, too.



Wife thinks I am nuts about the chairs and stuff, told me I wouldn't be happy with furniture unless it was made out of cedar logs with barbed wire cushions.

I'm 6'5, 250 - and I'm still sleeping on a queen-size waterbed. Just put in a new mattress and liner (it was a waiting game to see when the 12 year old mattress finally sprung a leak) and still sleeping like a baby on it.
