AAA RV Roadside Service

towing heavy - coolant temps get high

My Max brake display has failed. The unit is only one year old, but the company does not exist anymore so there is no warranty support.
Dutch and Di have been very helpful, but I need more help.
I think I can fix this thing myself, but I need a schematic diagram, or service manual. (not just an owner manual).
Does anyone have access to this information. (any old Max brake guys on line). any help is appreciated.
Rog

Rog,

Dutch and Di have supported Max Brake and TDR, shame something happened to Max Brake.

I was participating at an automotive show and one of the vendors was from one of the major controller suppliers. I kinda posed the question to him, where to get help in the future, he didn't blink http://brakecontroller.com/ which is part of Southwest Wheel. Don't know if they'll provide schematic, but might be worth it to contact them.

The manufacturer of the display is stamped on the back of the display . You can call the manufacturer and ask for a distributor . My brother is an EE and looked at it since the display had terrible viewing qualities so was going to change it but didn't.

p-Bar,
Thanks, that is also my problem. The detector for the display back light is built into the display and If I can find a replacement without max brake I will try to do that.
Dutch and Di indicated someone had developed a work around by adding another photo diode, but finding access points for it is not that easy.

K5IP The reason for getting into mine was I broke the slide pot. Brother researched it out and found the company. I forwarded that info to Di . I spoke with my brother about how crappy the display was and he did find the company and actually found a better readout that would have been plug and play. good luck on that

p-Bar,
Your brother and I share the same profession. (even though I am retired).
I will look for, and try to find the display your brother found.
I really like Max brake's approach to sensing break line pressure to actuate the trailer brakes, but I think they could have done a better job of implementing the design.
If you still remember the display your brother found, (plug and play is always nice), let me know. It would save some research on this end.
Thanks,
Rog

Rog,
It's been too long and I didn't keep any of the data. I will try to go back on emails tonight. Yes this is the best setup . I remember calling the customer service about calibration and told them how crappy the display was and he wanted me to write the pres. never got around to it . I thought the package is awful looking and done in silver ! yuck . Brother does analog design high current switching design.

Agreed, its not the most modern package. But when you use the brakes, it looks just great. My rig has Dexter 4 piston disc brakes, 4 of them. And it feels synchronized with the truck. I hope it never fails.

The good thing I won't have to worry about anyone stealing it.

I wouldn't mind having it either as I do have inquiries about the display light. I'm not sure what other issues were with the light but in the 5 years of using it, neither Dutch nor I had a problem with the display light or the look of the display but to each his own. Hugs, Di

It does look good & to me the display is quite readable. Instead of flipping ours upside down, we moved it to the right side of the steering wheel {as we had the room} and that way, we didn't hit it with our knee. Hugs, Di
Much better. I flipped mine upside down because I hit the slide pot and broke it .

Anybody have any cold weather issues with their Max Brake? In the link that p_Bar posted the screen has an operating temp of -4*F. I'm about to install a Max Brake on my truck and it does get colder than that here, should I be concerned?
