I know this has probably been talked about, but how much is really safe on a stock hy35w? I "modified" the wastegate today and am seeing about 34 psi WOT. from what I hear i think this should be safe. thanks. dan

Way back when I still had a hy35, anything above about 28 psi, was just heating the air more. Though the hy35 will probably live at 34psi (as long as you don't hold it there for long periods of time), you would be better off to back it down a little.

I just blew mine and I was turning it to 31 psi. Just get rid of the thing and put on a hx -35. Big time difference :D

it barely ever sees that much, I tow very rarely but sunday I will and Im sure it will be making more than 30 most of the time. My adjusting was not reversable so Ill have to live with it for now. I plan on getting a htb2 sometime soon so Im not to worried about it. Im just trying to keep the comp cool for a little bit :D

if you think it will see 30 most of the time i would keep an eye on egts because it is pretty ineficient at higher levels of boost and will just make hotter air.

All the posters are correct... even if you mod the waistegate, all you are doing is throwing more hot air into the system... although at the drags. . it's pretty hard to beat an HY35/Auto/4 :10's and a near stock size tire... . oh and of course you need to launch in 4WD... . an ice cream headache waitin' to happen... .

Sorry to post in an old thread and I hope no one minds but I am actually looking for a HY35 (and preferably a downpipe too) if any of you guys ended up pulling yours. . Thanks...

mine may be off soon. and to everyones dismay, the hottest the truck has got with the comp on 5x5 and 30 psi is 1200 really lugging with the convertor locked up. wont go over 1100 full throttle

Same here, when I had my HY on with DDII's and comp on 5X5 it would take awhile to get to 1250 at 34psi.

I still have mine plus the down pipe. If you are interested PM me.

I have the same setup as most of you... DD2's Comp, AFE PG7, 4 in yata, yata... and why you don't see 1250 often is beyond me... have you tried towing. . ??. is the pump wired to the comp..... ??? I could get 1250 easy with my HY, when I had it..... and forget about towing past 2/2... ain't gonna happen. . Again locking up the waistgate on an HY is a waste of time... . at least get an HX... plenty of take offs laying around the TDR... :D

I would say the guys who don't see over over 1250 with an HY and Comp need to get a new EGT probe. Try getting a smaller one. The big 1/4 inch thick ones do not react fast enought to show you your actual temp. I did a test on my truck once and there was a 200-300 degree difference on what the gauge read on the top end at WOT. I guess if you hold WOT for 30 sec to a minute the big thermocouple will eventually show you how hot your truck is getting.

My truck with an HY35 and DD3's at WOT would stay right at 1200, if I turned on the comp to anyting other than level 1 it would go over 1250 easy. My HY pushed 45 psi for a long time, back then I thought I was doing some good. It never blew and it sits in my garage waiting for me to install it on another project.

I tow on 3X2 usually, I have held it untill it diddnt move going down the highway up a hill. brand new pyro. moves pretty quick. on a hot day it *MIGHT* get to 1250 pushing it.
