I know the engine is governed at 3200 RPM, but what is the highest safe RPM for a stock motor. Lot of heavy metal slingin' around in there. Not that I'm trying to go any higher, just curious.

Don't you wish you could get a 4000spring kit.....

I could swear I saw my tach go past 3200. Could be wrong though, guess I'm trying to watch the road at the same time. :p

Safest, highest on a stocker? I would say don't goto 3200. Of course they can go faster, but won't because of the ECM limits them from doing it. Think if you could get the ECM reprogramed for 4000rpm, with a comp box, and DD compition program... . That would be fun.

Mine has seen 3600 or so. Not real sure. Trying to shift into 5th and got 3rd. Not cool. Caught it before I let the clutch all the way out. I think I saw somewhere that it may go a little past 3200, but power drops off very quickly, but I may have my facts wrong.

Governed Speeds

Hi Gang,

The Cummins ECM has three different Governed speeds.

Low idle 800 Rpm.

High Idle under load, 3200 Rpm.

High Idle no load, 3500 Rpm.

Highest engine speed without "failure" is 4200 Rpm.

Thanks guys. I guess 3600 or so was'nt too bad then. I don't plan on doing that again though. But then again I did'nt plan on doing it the first time.
