Tach in my truck starts redline at 3200 rpm, But is there a rev limiter that comes in at a certain rpm? Or how much past 3200 can you safely go? This probably sounds stupid, but almost half the tach is in the red. Thanks

Not a stupid question, I would like to know too. When rompin on mine I have got it to 3400 a few times. I suppose there is a governer or rev limiter, but like you I would like to know the facts.

I've never really held it there for any period of time or tried to see how high it could rev. Although a few months back we had some good rain, I did a couple of doughnuts in an empty lot with the programmer turned up :-laf when I checked my records on the Attitude monitor, it showed my highest RPM @ (3800) and top speed was (112) Keep in mind I can only get it to read (108) on the open road though.

You could keep that thing at redline all day long and not hurt it.

I read that some place in the Cummins literature. Basically it's not really a red line in the normal sense, just the highest usefull RPM and it wont hurt to run it that way forever. In some water pumping applications it does just that.

I think somebody once said harmonics will make it come apart at something like 4400 to 5000 RPMs.

BTW, it will set a code if you really over rev it.
