I believe Dodge says 10,000 lbs is the limit on the factory hitch.

I have put more than that on it for short trips and went real easy.

It was still wrong though!

The maximum weight is usually 10,000# (limited by the hitch)

With the new Reese Titan,I think the maximum trailer weight

is 14,000#.

Every factory hitch from DC I've seen is technically a Class 3 Hitch they are rated at 500/5000 weight carrying and 1,000/10,000 weight distribution... DC stamps them as Class 5

I sold mine for $75

The Titan on my truck is:

1,200/12,000 weight carrying and 1,400/14,000 weight distribution it uses the factory mounting holes so the change out took all of 20min with air tools.

Read your owners manual

Read your owners manual and I think you will see that you are limited to 10,000# regardless of what brand (OEM or aftermarket) receiver hitch you have.

I think my 99 factory hitch was rated Class IV (5000/10000) but IMO should only be rated Class III (4000/8000). I too sold the OEM hitch and replaced with a Class V (10000/12000) from Draw Tite.

I got into this a year or so ago. Apparently none of the manufacturers rate for more than a class four. The class five hitches offered by companies like Valley are (were) not officially certified (again this was about a year ago) by the people who certify hitches. All the manufacturers say Class four is the maximum the trucks are rated for.
