Just wondering what the highest (most overall power) setting for the TST is with a stock turbo on an 05'. Can't afford a new turbo after building my trans. Not just yet anyhow... ;)

I wouldn't go over 3/3 much. The stock transmission or clutch if you are 6 speed won't take much. 4/4 will make them slip. As long as you don't go ever 35psi boost the stock turbo will live for a while.

I see your transmission is built so you may be able to go higher as long as you can control your boost.

I have been told that the 05' has the hx40(?) turbo which is capable of 40psi. The 35's were a max boost of 35psi. There is just too much misinformation these days... :(

the '04. 5 and up use the same turbo with a bigger compressor wheel on it. I think you might be alright on 5/5 but you have to be gentle with it, as in not going WOT with no boost and no abrupt releases of the throttle. You don't want to bark it too much. I ran mine on my '03 for 9 mo. I replaced it because I was afraid of breaking it, not because it was broken.

I'm just wondering if I should get the TST and be done with it... OR get something with a little less power, since no one seems to be even close to using max power on its setup... Maybe a Diablo Predator or some other duration box...

The tst is one of the best timing/duration boxes but known to be hard on trannys and turbos. I would be very carefull stacking boxes with a stock turbo.

The TST R49 with remote does have the option to defuel on both EGT and boost settings. I saw 40-42psi on my stock turbo with the HOT Juice and Quad Race box quite a bit. But I did upgrade to SPS66 before switching to the TST.

Depends on how much self control you have, but I would get the TST first. I went through 5 different boxes before I learned. I was told to get the TST first, just kinda hard headed I guess.

JVolpe- I guess I'm alot like you. Some people need to try it their way first... then they realize they should have just listened to the advice they were given in the first place. I'm still up in the air... Oo.

I got the Edge hot juice becuase of price, knowing it's basicly second best behind the TST box. I spend $750 on ebay and it came with a A-pillar mount. It's perty much maxing out the stock motor with the HOT version. ConFE is holding anything I do thus far. Even towing 5000#'s on 5/4, I can create a black out cloud behind me and pull faster then most hondas once in 3rd gear if I don't get any tire slip :)

Man do these trucks smoke with a load! :) First real pull since I started putting mods on this truck.

Anywho. This is a 2 year deal for me I'm sure before I do any major upgrades that will require a TST and SP66-type turbo shortly

My theory was if I can get basic guages, lots of power for $750, and have it last me a while. Drop that ConFE in (done), FASS (in 2 paychecks?) and you are all set!. Maybe even an EZ stack for that low end kick. That's about all that stock turbo will ever handle.

The cool part about this is that EDGE is popular enough that when I want to upgrade, Selling the HOt version on ebay will prolly net min. of $500

At this point, I'll have my base setup for some real power. The issue I have with the TST at the time is that I would have to spend an extra $500 on guages and pillar mount, I can care less about "back down" abilities, they just get in the way for me tastes. And You can't get a tst with out that turbo to burn that fuel, and when you have that turbo, you should really stud the head. If you studding the head, it's stupid not to drop in those new injectors while your at it.

It's a visious circle!

The Edge setup is a good stepping stone that's for sure. if I do sell it for $500 at a min. , then $250 loss is not that big of a deal vs. what much of you guys end up "trying out" :)

Jason, I like the way you think... I know where I want to be in the future (600+hp) but I want twins, and I'll stud the head, etc. Just trying to get the most outta my setup for now without breaking the bank... and the turbo.

My advice is rather simple, but could be time consuming.

Both can give the same punch, and reliability (tst can do more punch if you ask it!). My point here would be the money aspect. look for edge and tst stuff, if you can get a tst with the back downs and boost limiters and all that for the same price range as edge, I would go for it, but don't go much above 5/5 until you fix the other weak links. If you can't find that, but find a good deal on an Edge unit, you won't be disappointed in perfomace.

Personally, I think tst's EGT and boost guage deal is hidiously ugly and would never mount that in a place that I would have to look at it. Analoug gauges all the way! and mount the non-guage unit out of hte way, but easy to access control power levels.
