Direct question...

Whats the maximum boost you can run that is safe?

Yea, theres gonna be lots of varying opinions, but lets hear it. Have heard of head gaskets going at 45-55 lbs, some w/ stock motors.

Im thinking 35-40 lbs max.

Its not really boost per se that is the problem. The problem is cylinder pressure. High boost numbers can be part of the problem.

Advanced injection timing, more fuel (amount each injector packs in) and air (from boost packed in or cam profile changes) all effect the overall cylinder pressure. Cam profile and the way the cam is in relation to the crank play a part too. Opening the exhaust valve earlier or later effect pressure too. Same with the intake side. Overlap of the two as well.

Add in nitrous and propane and you get all kinds of variations.

Too many variables to say a number that will work for all conditions.

I run mine up to 40 psi's everyday and 45 psi's every other day. No problems yet and have been doing so since the inception of the 5's ( about 8 months).

you're more likely to blow the head gasket if you punch the go pedal to the floor before the engine reaches it's normal operating temp---I. E. don't floor it until you're warmed up---chris

How much pres. can the map sensor take. Being that a stock engine has around 18 psi how much "cushion" is put into its construction, or are you guys bombing that too

don't know of anybody "bombing" the map sensor or that our bombing has blown one to pieces--I think they can handle a lot---65psi from HVAC's twin setup so far is the max and Cumminntstrkn has hit 60psi with his B1---chris

I hit 50 lbs boost almost daily, and occasionally see 54 lbs:D. I have no problems yet... . I agree with Chris, let the engine get completely warmed up to operating temp before going into the high boost numbers.
