My truck max's out at about 90 MPH is that about right with the 4. 10 rear? Also, at about 80 -83 MPH I start to get a noisy vib "growl" on up should it be that way? The truck only has 6000 mile on it. I'm wondering if I have a power problem before I attempt to tow a 10,000# TT into the mountains. The truck runs smooth up till 80 and seems to have alot of power up to 80 but after that it kinda seems dead.

thax pat

6 speed or auto? That would be about right for the 6 speed. It gets noisy with the engine screaming. It should keep me out of speeding tickets on the freeway though. My tire are 657 Revolutions per mile X 4. 1 = 2693RPM st 60 MPH in 5 th In OD manual= 1938 Auto=1858 At 90 MPH auto =2787 Manual 2907. With the 4. 10 you are close to maxxed out. I think it defuels at somewhere in the 3200RPM range

Hmmm . . My wife was in a car accident in late March. I was called to the scene. I KNOW my speedo was over 90mph. I have a 555 with 4. 10 and stock tires. It didn't have much more but I think 100mph is do-able.....

Put on bigger tires 315's should give you around 373 ratio give or take. As for the power dieing off there is a fix for that. BOMB IT...

DAVE...

I've only taken my truck up to about 90mph myself but I can't say if she was all done or not because I was not trying to exceed that speed. However, my understanding is that these days vehicles are speed governed to whatever the speed rating is of the factory tire.

With 6sd and stock tires 90mph is about it,the noise is the motor turning 3000+rpm

I had my truck up to 95 today, no problem. You have to really lay on the go-pedal to keep it going up there because it starts to defuel a LOT at 2800 and up. It's pretty much 100% dead at 3200 rpm or so.

My 04 Quad cab Auto 4x4 short bed has an annoying vibration & growl also it starts at 35 mph thru 100 plus, Ive checked every thing and cant seen to locate to source of the noise. I have ran 45 to 80 psi of air pressure and the growl continues to annoy me.

90? With my 12v defuel is around 2700 rpm and thats about 85mph with a tail wind. Cruising from 70 to 75 and mpg goes down fast. Barns take lots of power to move thru the air. My best fuel economy is around 60 but accepable at 70 above that forget it. Noisy? heck yes when revs are high it gets loud.

I recently rode with a couple of friends who moved to the CTD from gassers, both said their fuel economy was terrible. They were very lead foot in normal driving. Pointed out that if you put tach at about 2k, both autos, when taking off you move pretty good. More pedal, more smoke, less economy. Smoke is fun when you want it, but all the time when diesel is 2. 39. 9/gal is costly.

Driving a diesel means changing driving habits, I tell people the CTD will tow a house, just not real fast. Heck the towing limit in Cal is 55 and with a house in tow that fast enough.
