Competition MM 05' Dyno Results

Competition Someone has to .....

Sat May 20th at the Blackfoot fairgrounds, Rocky Mountain Pullers is having a all diesel (Possibly some stock gassers too)test and tune "play with the sled day" and that night a competition pull. You get 2 hooks and then the one later on that night. Should be lots of fun! :D :D

What the requirements for the truck. What kind of hitch to I need? Need a Helmet?

i think hitch height correct me if i am wrong is 27 inches max, max tire is 35, although i ran 37s and yes you have to wear a helmet and seat belt with no passengers, hope this helps.

just a caution for you powerstroke haters, jack moore has a good running powerstroke, he has beat me everytime by 10-40 feet, altthough my clutch is a 13 inch single ceramic not made for sledding... ... ... ... . :)

26 in hitch height. Helmet... yes. Bascially NHRDA rules. Jack told me last year (not kidding either) that he was stripping down his Powerstroke to stock, retiring it and thinking about building up a 12 valve Dodge to pull with. His PS had 150,000 miles on it so it was getting demoted to hay truck or something like that. But who knows if he will stick to that. :D

Just a 3" ID clevis works fine. That is what I have always used. If you have a ball hitch just take out the ball and tell the sled operator or flagger you need to borrow a clevis. They usually keep a couple on the sled just in case. If you don't have a helmet or forget, there is usually someone nice enough to lend you one.

I might made it there. I'm kinda nursing a dying transmission though, so I'm not sure I want to commit just yet.

Tech and weigh in starts at 12:00 and goes until 3:00. Show starts at 7:00. I am not sure what the hook fee is but to watch the show tickets are $10 at the gate.

Jack put 2 inches on me at the Tooele pull. We both had pulls over 320'

I had stock (bald!!) tires, no suspension blocks, weighed in at 7400 lbs, and had an open diff in the front.

Its just setup. Jack puts a little over 400 to the rear. His setup is what wins.

Hitch height, locked front and rear, suspension blocks, and weighing in at 7999 lbs doesn't hurt either...

BUT Jack is one h e l l of a nice guy that will share all the little secrets with you.

Hopefully I will make it up for this one.

How far is Blackfoot from Salt Lake?

Justin

I'd say its 180 or so to Blackfoot from here... I mean Salt Lake. Pocatello is about 165, and Blackfoot is another 15-20. About 3 hours drive. I'm really thinking of heading up to this, sounds fun!

Ya I did, he told me he was practicing pulling apart his AR-15 and thought it was unloaded.

I don't have my white truck anymore. I pulled the twins, ported head, injectors, and all the other goodies. I have them in my garage waiting for me to feel frisky and put them on the 02.

Funny how Jack's truck will beat Shane Boyer truck huh? How can he put down 725 (i think) and still lose to Jack at some pulls?

A pull off is where to beat Shane. His truck gets so hot he is no good for a second round. Plus he did not have any kind of lockers last year and he kept trashing torque converters . Jack obviously knows what he is dong when he picks his parts! I hope I can beat one of these two guys at least once. :-laf

I AM PRETTY SURE I WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE JACK WITH A DECENT CLUTCH, AND A FEW TWEAKS EVEN AT 7700 LBS, IF I GET LUCKY :-laf

I had no idea that you were NOT using a dual disk? What gear did you pull in?

At the Tooele pull did you see the big white dodge smoke his clutch? That was my buddy, 4th low with an OFE made for a stinky drive home...

What flavor is your current clutch?

You need to hang some weights, I was amazed at the difference it made.

I PULLED IN 3RD LOW, I COULDNT GET ANY POWER DOWN IN 4TH, I AM PRETTY SURE I COULD RUN 5TH LOW OR 3RD HIGH IF I HAD THE SBC3850 AND DROPPED DOWN TO 35IN ALL TERRAINS, I DID SEE THE WHITE DODGE SMOKE THE CLUTCH, MY CLUTCH IS A JUNK PRO GOLD, FROM LUK, SUPPOSED TO HOLD 500 H. P. AND 1100 FT LBS, IT WAS SLIPPING AT BULLY DOG WITH ONLY 1000 FT LBS, ITS OK FOR DAILY DRIVING AND HEAVY LOW POWER TOWING, BUT I AM GOING TO GET THE S. B. 3850 FOR SLEDDING AND THE HYD UPGRADE, I DO HAVE A WEIGHT RACK MADE AND SOME 90LB TRACTOR WEIGHTS, BUT I HAVE NOT TRIED THEM YET... .

4 hi = busted drivetrain parts!!

5 low = very good pull!!

You have to remember that 5 th low was the same as my auto in 4 low and in drive. They are the same 1 to 1. I was able to keep it at 3000 rpms and about 30 mph.

The autos do very well if setup right...

You have to have some serious power to use 5th low with 37's!! But with your twins, you should have no problem burning whatever fuel you can throw at it!

Are you going to make it to some of the United Puller pulls this year?
