2011 NHRDA World Finals, Topeka Kansas Sept 10th

Anyone planning on going to MM 2011? My wife and I are planning to go again this year. If the dates are correct it goes to Sunday now? Usually it eds on Saturday evening after the banquet and giveaways. Hope lots of TDR members shows up as it will be lots of fun.

I've already sent my money in so, I'm planning on going. You can have Disneyland!!!! I'd much rather go to May Madness!!!

Looking forward to seeing & crossing the new bridge near Lake Mead. Been watching the progress for a couple of years now, it seems.

Joe, can't see crap when you drive over it, been over it 4 times already. Have to go to the parking area on the Nevada side, just past the security check point , and walk across it ! They have a pedestrian walkway up there in case you haven't heard. Walked it this past week... 900' above the river !!! And I don't care for heights !!!:-laf:

The dates this year are April 25th through April 30th, which is Monday through Saturday. The itinerary will be pretty much the same with the banquet on Sat. night. Joe suggested that we include an early breakfast on Sunday morning, May 1st so that we can continue to call it May Madness. I checked with Mary, the food person at the RV Park, and she said she could do an early breakfast Sunday morning, anything we might want to serve, if that is what we want to do. I told her to go ahead with it. We will figure out a menu as the event gets closer. The breakfast would be early enough that those, which are most of the folks, can pack up, eat, and be on their way. We would hope that it would be a convenience for those who wanted to attend.

My wife and I are scheduled to make that 570 mile drive south for the 4th straight MM. Hope to see lots of old TDR friends and always excited to meet new ones too. :-laf

CD, would love to check out your truck as we both have a 2006 MC.

JBonpua - well, hopefully there will NOT be stuff come up this year to make me have to change my plans to attend this year. While I am not complaining about what made me have to change my plans last year (new grandbaby born) I really would like to attend. Adn yes, it is fun to check out others trucks and see what everyone has done to them. Nothing special about mine, just did the things I felt I needed and a few that I wanted but not necessarily needed.

CD, I copied your mud flap design so when you see my truck you will at least be proud of the mud flaps. :) I still have many things I plan to do to get my truck ready and I'm running out of time.

Can't wait to go which reminds me to make the hotel reservation ASAP.

I'm 98 % sure my wife and I are finally going to make MM. We'll be stopping there for 2-3 days on our way back to WI from Santa Cruz and we'll be trailering her car (6000lbs?) with my 3500 dually.
I've got two questions I'd like to get your opinions on:
1. We'll be taking I-15 N. out of Barstow and would like to take Hiway 127 then 178 on into Pahrump. We've never been in that area and would like to do a little dessert sightseeing. My concern is, will that road/terrain be too severe for my dually towing a car and trailer (6000lbs?), or should I just stay on the main roads?
2. We'll only be able to stay 3 days max. Should those days be Fri. thru. Sun? Or Thur. thru. Sat? What is happening on Sunday other than the banquet?
TIA for any suggestions.
Ray

Ray,

Once you get on I-5 we basically be taking the same route to Pahrump. This is my route: take I-5 S, CA-99 S, CA-58 S, I-15 N, Left on CA-127 @ Baker, Right on CA-178 @ Shoshone, CA-178 turns into NV-372 as you cross into NV. Take NV-372 all the way till you see the Nugget Hotel/Casino which is the host hotel and you are there.
I've taken that very same route for the past three years and although I don't tow I see no problem with towing your 6K lbs car and trailer. The roads are all paved and wide.
You definitely want to stay till Saturday for vendor's display, Show-N-Shine and banquet that evening with lots of give away. Nothing happening on Sunday other than a breakfast so it can still be called “May Madness”. Hope to see you there.

Juanito

Juanito,
Thanks for all the info. I'll be looking forward to meeting you and all the other TDR guys. I'll be driving my 98 red/black 3500 trailering a silver Accord.
I'll plan on arriving Thur. AM and leaving Sun. am.
Ray

Ray, you are most welcome. We should arrive Monday afternoon. I'll be looking for you and your red/black 98 dually and make sure look for me and my wife and say hello. Our truck is a gray 06 Mega Cab with cap and CA plate.

Here's the story on the dates. If we hold it the next week, we impact Mother's Day which is the second Sunday in May. Some attendees object to that. The later we make the event, the hotter it gets in Southern Nevada. Many attendees object to 110 degree days. So, we try to hold/end the rally early in May. When it was held in Carson City and Minden, you could find it snowing in early to mid May, so it was held in late May. For 2011, April 25-May 1 will be the dates. In 2012, April 30 through May 5 is a likely week, but not finalized yet.

Wondering if it would be worth it to me to come all the way from Vermont to Pahrump for the event! What actually goes on at these events? What kind of vendors do they have? Are there vendors that do performance installs, such as fuel pumps, filters, injectors? Not sure if that is the type of place I would want to have those things done, warranty issues, etc.

I would love to come just for the fun of it, but it would be a long, expensive trip. It would be nice though as I could also see friends in the area from when I worked out there. Used to ride the motorcycle to Pahrump for breakfast and then go thru Death Valley, really enjoyed that trip. Very pretty when the desert blooms in the spring time.

Thanks for any info. Thought you guys that have been there before could give some insight as to how much fun it might be! Can I make the breakfast sunday morning, May 1st? Would enjoy meeting some other TDR members.

Ray We have used that route from Baker to Pahrump the last three MMs pulling a 6300 lb. TT with a 02 3500 with no problem. We will be there again and hope to see alot of old friends & meet new ones. H Westfall
