May Madness "2005" !!!

The "poll & replys" all pertain to the 2004 May Madness.

If you check pages 141 & 142 of issue 47, (Feb/Mar/Apr) of the TDR it will tell you what you need to know.

This is, I believe, my fifth year and it is always a great time. It's a gathering of people all with a common interest, Dodge/Cummins diesels.

There are two days of Dyno Runs, Drag racing, Show & Shine, Seminars, Meet & Greet, etc. all with a really nice, diversified, group of people. All age groups and interests.

It's the best diesel event, that I know of, in the West. People come from all over the country every year. If it wasn't good, they wouldn't drive that far. Any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you very much Joe. I have my issue right here. I have been so busy I have not had a chance to even look at #47. I am a bit confused after reading the info. Do I need to send in $ to TDR if I just want to go and look. Is there an admittance fee to just poke and hang around? Thanks Again. Dusty

Hi DustyRock,

It looks like registration is $75. 00 for 1 person, now. With that you get a really nice buffet-style meal, sat. night. They usually have a couple of cold cut style evening meals, also. There are quite a number of seminars, which, are very informative. Last year, they even had a gentleman who I believe was the head engineer in charge of the Cummins Engine Plant where our engines are built. There should be 2 Dyno Days, near the Las Vegas Speedway. There is drag racing at the speedway, Fri. night, which, is not part of the May Madness but, is still available. There are lots of "Diesel Heads" to talk to, which, is a lot of fun. Personally I, probably, enjoy that more than anything else. There are product vendors, also.

You do have to register and are given a name tag, which, you should wear. Probably would be embarrrassing to be denied access to something you would really like to see.

Personally, I think $75. 00 for 4 days of activities is a bargain. That's less than $20. 00/day. That includes, at least, one good meal and usually a couple more. Chances are you will pick-up some valuable tips which can save you some money (I got a tip one time on the TDR that saved me $196. 00 or almost 6 years worth of subscription fees).

The people that are involved in May Madness really work hard to put on a great show, and they do. So far as I know, this is the biggest and best show out West. If you live in the Midwest, you have Schied's Diesel Extravaganza (in Terre Haute, IN) and Thunder in Muncie (now, Thunder at IRP), both in Indiana. Both of these are great, huge, diesel events (I've been to both). But, out here, we don't seem to have as many larger events. May Madness is the best one, that I know of. And I'm really looking forward to going, again. This will be my fourth time.

I hope this helps you make a decision. If you have anymore questions, I will be glad to try to answer them, for you.

Hope to see you there!!!

If anyone can't find their magazine, I can send the info by email; contact me at -- email address removed --

You can get a one-day pass for $35, but that does not include the banquet. A good meal, but also the point where usually $5000 to $10,000 in prizes will be given away by random drawing. Also the trophies are given out there.

Schedule is not finalized. We hope to have sled pulling, possibly Thursday. There will be seminars different days, from Wednesday on. Most seminars and vendor activities are Saturday. Wednesday evening will be spent at Saitta-Trudeau Dodge in Pahrump. They usually have their own show-n-shine, etc. with $ prizes and food. Pahrump is a neat place, has a winery, and is the gateway to Death Valley for those who want to wander.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it. Sounds like fun. I am new here and have only attended one truck pull and had a blast. I am in So. Cal. it was held last Sept. at Willow Springs. Anyway dont have a travel trailer yet so any hints as to which day to show up and should I contact AAA for a motel or can you guys recommend one for me and I think the wife will want to go. Thanks again. Dusty

If you can only come for one day, depending on your interests, you have Dyno Days on Thurs. and Fri. Drag Racing should, probably, be Fri. evening, after the Dyno Day. So, you could get two events in one day. Sat. should be, as Joe Donnelly said in a previous post, Seminars, Vendors & Show & Shine, etc.

Arizona Charlie's-East is the host hotel and RV park. A lot of activities will be held there. Reservations can be made by calling 800-362-4040. The address is: 4575 S. Boulder Hwy. Las Vegas, NV. Rates are $40. 00 including tax for weekdays and $55. 00 including tax for Fri. & Sat. Specify "May Madness" for those rates.

The hotel also has restaurants for your other meals and a casino in the event you brought too much money along.
