May Madness Dyno Predictions

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies

Thanks, TDR Staff

Salt Lake City Get Together

May Madness & Amsoil

Last year it took 500 hp to get "noticed" in the highest horsepower competition. This year, if all the promises come true, there will be a dozen trucks in the low to mid 600s on diesel fuel only.

So, the poor old Sickly Ram is calling you out :D Who can beat him this year? I got him tied down with 150,000 miles on the clock, single turbo, no "drugs. " Last year he was the only truck over 600 hp on #2 only. That should be easy to beat this year according to the pundits on the forums.

Piers, no playing around this year. Show us what those lazer cut high fueling parts can do with the twin turbos and other stuff you got. Don't wimp out and bring some low hp 2003 or try to tell us you left your stupid pump at home. Bring all the hp you got or you will be left in the smoke :)

Nowel, no fair hiding out and waiting until last. Put that bad boy Red Rocket on the roller and show us if the first Ram over 600 (drug addicted) can do it clean and mean on #2. Oo.

A few months ago Jim Fuller warned me he is catching up with Sickly (making 625 hp at that time). Are you going to make it 650 this time? :)

Mark Kendrick, Eric McBride, Adam Sprague, you guys all are supposed to belong in the 600 club. And, what about Chris Sutton and Brandon Finley? Drive those trucks here and show us that the _western_ trucks that pull also make hp.

C'mon and show us, no typewriter numbers, get on the Dynojet and join the club for real. We are going to use the heavy inertia NASCAR model Dynojet, not a light dyno or one with dial-a-number software like I saw a couple years ago on a Mustang.

What is Christian going to bring from the BD stable? Last year he had 733 on propane and nitrous. Can he make the 600 club this year?

Maddog ain't talkin. Will he get 725 that Nowel predicted on #2 with his 12 valve using Piers' "stupid" pump and twin turbos? 85 psi boost in the driveway we are told :--) Drawson, how much dinero are you putting on him?

This is all in fun, camaraderie rules here in the West. That doesn't mean we have forgotten how to compete.

"Last year he (sickly) was the only truck over 600 hp on #2 only"

That would be WRONG!!! You better ask Mike to pull up my dyno sheet from last year. You were NOT the only truck to run over 600 on diesel. You have a 24v fighter on your tail and your about to get flamed:eek:

how about a pallet full of charcoal filters from Iraq for the weeeeak of heart... the fumes at Silverstate are not going to be as "friendly" as DD's. . he is a little shy on smoke control, the last time I was there with Nowel he filled the house in about 1 second and everyone was hauling assss out O there

all you 5" exh. guys and twin exh. guys will cause a big problem for them

Now as to the power levels... hummmm I think 'Ol Joe is baiting some of you... sickly is never far off the mark even with his bed full of used broken turbo's and parts... to bad he doesn't get a good wash & wax job once in a while [might get another HP or two] LOL

Greg B.

We will be at Silverstate Motorsports which is north of vegas on hwy 15 where the huge raceway complex is located. You head north of town like your going to SLC and about five miles north of vegas you will spot the Speedway Blvd offramp. At the stop sign go right and pass the restaurant. The restaurant is at the corner of N. Hollywood street. Passed N. Hollywood take the next right and go down three or four warehouses. At first there sill be buildings on your right and your left. As you proceed south you will only have buildings on the left. That means we will be just over the fence from N. Hollywood (this is the freeway side of the buildings) which heads back towards town. Silverstate is in the unit second from the west end of the building (freeway side).

Be out there at 09:00 Friday.

Mike is real reasonable on his dyno fees.

All registered participants in the May Madness rally are welcome to participate in Dyno Days, by dyno testing their trucks or by just watching others.

Recognizing the power increases from various modifications, and from the different factory produced combinations, several categories have been chosen for trophies this year.

There is no need to fit your truck into any of these categories for dyno testing. These are simply the “classes” of trophies, and the distinctions being made to allow for more equalized competition for these trophies.

First we will have the street stock type classes, with single turbocharger and the correct model injection pump (such as VE, P7100, VP44, or HPCR). Larger exhaust housings or larger turbochargers are necessary to maintain safe exhaust gas temperatures, so these changes are allowed. Many other popular changes are allowed also: fueling boxes, torque plates, transfer pumps, fuel lines, injectors, and non-visible upgrades. These trucks must be street licensed and driven.

Second will be modified street, allowing twin turbochargers and injection pump conversions (all fuel through the injection pump). These trucks must be street licensed and driven.

Third will be competition trucks, allowing the above modifications plus fuel “additives” such as propane and nitrous oxide, and not requiring streetability. These trucks must run in diesel fuel only, through the injection pump only, mode; they may also run in “any fuel” mode. Non-diesel engines will thus be excluded so John Force and Don Garlits need not sign up :) To qualify as a “diesel fuel only” run against other trucks, “additive” bottles must be disconnected from their feed lines.

To date, no non-Dodge trucks have been registered for May Madness, so no trophies are being made up for street stock non-Dodge classes. Non-Dodge trucks can compete on an even footing for the Modified and Competition trophies.

My Poor Old Sickly Ram will not be allowed to take home any of the trophies :( However, he may try to struggle up onto the roller and make a run

These dyno trophies will be given at May Madness 2003:

High HP First Generation Ram

High HP 12 Valve Ram

High HP 24 Valve Ram

High HP Third Generation Ram

High HP Modified Truck

High HP Competition Truck

Entrance Fees

OKOK, so have you (JD) recapped the entry fees for MM? I have no idea what we are expected to be sending in to cover the basic package. I need access to the banquet and hall of gottahavits. I'll pay Mike for the dyno stuff.

Registration info is on another MM thread in this forum. $70 basic registration includes attendance and 1 banquet ticket. If you want a vendor booth for "Performance Diesel" please contact me offline. Each dyno participant pays Mike Arnett (Silver State) for his own runs.

Just In Case

You can bet that there will be stragglers drifting in from all points of the compass. Can we purchase banquet tickets al la carte : )

There will be folks drifting in from AZ, NM, CA, etc and possibly we could round them all up for the Sat night closing ceremonies. Otherwise they will tend to skip it as I usually do.

HVAC, I can add to the banquet at the last minute. However, I have to give a count and pay for the projected number 3 days before it, so It REALLY helps to plan ahead for me :) Small adjustments in number, OK. Those who drift in usually know ahead of time, and I'd appreciate getting the best count that I can on Wednesday.

Geez, HVAC, ya ain't been keeping up

My address is on the registration form, found in the TDR magazine and the on-line version on the May Madness 2003 thread in the southwest forum.

Surely you don't have a computer slower than your Red Rocket???

OK, OK, here's the addy: 670 Lomprey Av. , Henderson, NV 89015

Are you gonna show us 650 drug-free hp Oo.

TDR Mag

Haven't read them for some time now. Most of the stuff is old news.

Only 650 horses on #2? Nope! I figure we'll use FULL throttle! :D Unless you want me to sandbag:rolleyes:

It's fine with me, Blair. :D His other competitors might not be happy, though :(

Poor old Sickly is struggling to keep up  He ain't even got a throttle ;)
