i just found some listings for 2 crew cabs local to me. . i always liked em. . and my drag race project is getting its engine soon and its paid for. . ha... and the drag truck chassis i have is a chevy and i think its ugly so im debating throwing the 6v53 in to a crew cab and driving that?..... ha i could even run a real jake brake heheh... . im not sure if these trucks are 4x4 or not . . but i have my 89 srw 4x4 cummins if i need axles. . i also have a allison 545 transmission too here. . already paid for. . mummn i wonder what mileage i could get i've heard of this swap before and reaLLY GOOD MILEAGE LIKE 20-30MPG. . BUT I DON'T REALLY BELIVE IT... . and maybe a 10speed road ranger. . find them cheap like $300... mummn 4x4 or not... would sound sick any input?... .

Gulp!

I like the two-stroke detroits too  But I think that the 6v-53 would make the front of your truck a lil' tipsy. I think that the weight of that engine is roughly a ton. Not that people haven't dropped a 3208 cat in their pick-ups as well, you would have to consider frame modifications and relate them to your transmission choice before starting.

I got The Power Wagon Advertiser up until I forgot to renew it (funny how that works) and a guy in there dropped a 3-53T in a 1947 WDX powerwagon, it had an Allison... nasty truck, bet it sounded cool. Yeah, having a real jake in your pick-up would be something I would demonstrate as often as possiable he he ;)

actually it really isn't that heavu when you strip the on highway oil coolers and extras off it. . i think its 1400 lbs . . i have 2 1/2 of them now one is built up pretty well its from my firnsd drag pickup it has run 12 secs flat in the 1/4 mile. . i have a drag pickup chassis thats was built for a 6v53. . i have the allison too but the allison locks up i believe but im not 100% sure. . if it doesen't lock up themn a jake wouldn't work as well. . right now his truck is in the 600hp 1200-1400 ftlbs range... but when its delivered to me it will be minus the twin to4 turbos and the race spec blower (stock one in its place), and i will have smaller injectors... oh well too many projects. . heheheheck i have 2 silver 6v92's too those are too heavy for normal pickup... . but bolt em together for a 12v92 in a rig and fun time!

Sounds like you have heard of Team Diesel, or maybe you are http://www.teamdiesel.com/ Whatever the case have fun with those oilburners :D

Oh, what do they do to the blower to make it race spec? I have yet to talk to anyone who has a grip on the bombing of a detroit beyond turbos and larger injectors.

Thanks,

Russell

actually i am friends with doug doring . . ie team diesel in fact my drag chassis is his old drag truck its a late 70's chevy, fiberglass flip nose with straight axle front . . kinda like a old willys gasser style ha. . it has drums all around and shortened frame . . rear wheel are right behind the cab. . 9" ford rear... . his new drag truck has run a 9. 29 in the 1/4 mile that was in maryland ddra race couple months ago. . any how he had a big hand in building the engine i bought. . his friend doug sortiro owned it. . but doug is upping the anty now going to a aluminum block engine. . lighter weight. . so i bought his running all iron 6v53. . etc. . the race spec blower as i understand is blueprinted and the clearances are tighter and i think they upgrade the seals on the rotors?. . im not sure so ... so yup its cool. . basically the engine s have different pistons , different timing , monster injectors, twin turbos, and adjusting the fuel rack and govenor way different then normal. . i am still learning all these processes. . but soon i will know more. . i have been doing a big" too many projects in my life" cleaning up process around my house this year . . soon i will be organized and hopefully only have 3 projects. . twin turbo tdi '78 rabbit, my drag truck, and my cummins 4x4. . ha

Diesel drag racing in Maryland... . wish I knew! You might want to check out this link I have posted a few times before http://www.adelmans.com/ This place has some aluminum detroit 3-53's for cheap, maybe you need the heads?

Tell doug his truck is a bad machine!

Would the 6V53 be any good for sled pulling? What is the rpm band on one of these motors? How many horses are being sqeezed out of the motors?

what is the rpm range ... well do you mean stock or modified?... stock is up to 2500-2800 maybe... . race engine 3500-4000 rpm. . then one i have was pushing about 600hp and 1200ftlbs but thats with the race blower, monster injectors, and twin parallel t04 turbos. . and nitrous(i won't have all that just yet) enough to push a 5300lb truck to 12. 0 flat in 1/4... . i know of a other one that is over 750 hp and probably over 1500 plus ftlbs. . haven't been able to find a dyno with high enough torque . . is waht i was told... . any how the 4 53 can do similar liek 350 400hp or so. . i think it would pull pretty good in fact if i get my rig running the winter/ summer. . i'll pull the slicks off and bolt on some truck tires and pull it at the local fair. . heheh later

If you run one of them you better get ear plugs because it turns diesel fuel to noise, and oil dry alot of oil drips from air box drains.

ha i hear ya i have a couple of them one good runner. . and 2 extras. . plus 2 extra 6v92s. . ha the good runner is from my friends drag ford pickup. . he upgraded to aluminum block... . i got ol iron sides. . heavy like 1400lbs . . should go good. . in the drag engine the the air box drains into a breather/collection tank. . not a leaker. . hehe. . 600 hp 1200 ftlbs. . and that good ol. . rack fuel search idle. . hehe. . i think im gonna keep the detroit in my drag truck project and keep away from the crewcab just yet. .

rabbittree, I've been interested in your 6V-53 project since I saw your posts on the TDIclub forums.

Did you see where Doug Doring is claiming 800 hp with his current 6V-53 drag race truck? 1/4 mile in 9. 27 sec @ 142 mph... yikes!

my truck is doug dorings old race truck. . he had a hand in the engien i have here. . and he and doug sortiro are the guys who got me bite by the diesel drag bug... . they are both local to me and very good at helping me out. . i hope to get mine running for theis upcoming season. . should be a blast. . im trying to finish a tdi rabbit as we speak... so i'm busy . . too many projects. . ha

Therabbittree,

The T04 turbos that are on your 6v-53; those are turbonetics right? Can you get those to fit the 5. 9l cummins or is it not worth it? I thought that the ceramic bearing option would be nice, but no one here has shown interest in this idea. I know that holset makes a good product, just looking for more ideas :D

Thanks

Russell

i don't have the twins yet my firnd had them when he ran my engine im working on a deal to get em though. . or make a custom turbo setup myself. . the t04 are really small compared to a cummins dodge turbo form holset. . yould only want em if you were doing tweins that were not staged and i don't see the point in that,, ,,these are about half the size of a h1e. . holset. . hope that helps you a little

thanks
