Rubber Bed mats Where is good place to get?

First big load using a gooseneck - fuel mileage problems

I have to drive way out west to pick up my new camper. Is there anyway to drive out with the tailgate on. I don't want to put it in the new camper. Never had a slide in camper before. Will there be any room between the camper and the side of the bed to fit it for a ride home?

Also, I need to disconnect the light to remove the rear tailgate. Any suggestions on this.

The tail gate is easy to remove. There is a snap disconnect under the rear of the truck. It is the snap ring type so you will have to depress the catch and pull it out and then remove the wire from the body hole and you are ready to remove the tailgate.

You can check with S&S to see if they have a rack on top of the roof on your model, most of em do. To disconnect the lights in the center of the tailgate, trace them under the bed the plug will be about the center of the rear most crossmember. Also when you get your tiedowns installed, MAKE SURE they put the cross brace in that goes in between the front hold downs inside the bed. Even if they tell you "naw, the Dodge doesn't need that" Spend the extra $50 to get it installed. If you get into some heavy side winds or offroad you NEED them, don't take a chance without and bend the front of your bed. There will be no room between the camper and the bed, only the amount in front of the wheel wells. Also I see you have a tonneau cover, if this is the type with the frame inside the bed rails, you will need to remove it. Since that camper is pretty heavy you may want to consider some airbags or a HD sway bar in the rear. I also highly recommend Rancho RS9000 shocks. If you plan on towing a trailer with the camper on you need a really stout hitch. There is a guy about 100 miles from Kalispell who will install the hitch for a price cheaper than I've seen anywhere on just the parts. He also has the shocks and airbags for a good price. Plus no sales tax in Montana. Sorry to be so long, feel free to send me an email if you have any other questions.

There is no room in the truck bed for the tailgate but what is wrong with taking an old blanket and putting it inside the slide in on the bed?

Sleeping on it will give you a back ache!

The air bags are on and working. The tailgate had a flat four trailer harness for me to disconnect. I don't want to be driving x country with a tailgate in the camper. I will be using this camper for hauling myself and a friend, not a tailgate.

How about removing the tailgate before you leave and replacing it with one of net type made of nylon webbing? Easy to fold up and stick behind the seat or in the camper, they don't cost much either. I assume the reason that you aren't taking the gate off before leaving is because you're hauling stuff you don't want falling out, the mesh type will foot that bill.

Leave the tailgate home. That puppy is heavy. If you have a trailer hitch it may need to come off as it is in the way of some slideins.

Does your slide-in hang down in the back lower than the bed? If it doesn't, just drive home with the tailgate down. Otherwise, leave it home. My aunt had a camper that was just 3 inches longer than the bed of the GMC she was using. When she loaded the camper, she just left the gate down.
