Competition Sled Pulling breaking parts

Competition Tampico, Indiana!!

I was at Mission Raceway Park in Mission Canada for an NHRDA points race and made it to the finals against Rotten Rhonda and I stalled the truck on launch apperantly from too big hit on the nitrous and after watching helplessly as Rhonda runs down for the win I made an attempt to restart the truck. That was a bad choice, the nitrous that built up from the launch as well as a lot of unburnt fuel was sitting in my exhaust and when I tried to start the truck all that fuel and nitrous lit the explosion was huge!!!!!! It blew the exhaust apart and sent the stacks sailing. I have to large dents in the cab above the window (thank God I put a Lexan rear window in or it would be gone too) the drivers side of the bed is badly dented from a 5 inch 90* elbow hitting it.

My whole exhaust system is waisted Time for some work... ... A word to the wise (and not so wise) after a stall on the line do not repeat do NOT try to restart your engine!!!!!!!! get pushed off the line and give the truck time to disperse any unwanted fumes before attempting to restart. The guys at the track told me there are two kinds of people who nitrous, those who have had an explosion and those who will have an explosion. After talking to several people who know a lot about the subject I believe that

I hope a few people can learn from my mistake and remember if this happens to then do not try to restart your truck. I had never seen this happen nor had I ever heard of it :(

wow! Sorry to hear that. Yeh a niitrous explosion can do severe damage. On a gas motor if someone hits the nitrous button by accident with the motor not running, usually all you have to do is kill the ignition and crank it over to vent the nitrous out. I am not sure of what you would do on a diesel for that though

   Was there any damage to the engine??? What about the turbos? Man the way you describe the exhaust being blown apart it had to be horrific!!! Just how large of a hit are you launching with??:--)

No engine damage aqnd the turbo's are fine. 10 mintues after it happened we fired it up and it ran just fine and drove it in the trailer :D

The nitrous was contained in the exhaust so there was no problem with the internals of the engine. I was a little worried about the HT3B but it shows no indication of damage

We are using s DD spray bar in the intake plenum and a . 80 jet the main problem was I do not have my progessive controller hooked up yet and it takes the whole shot at WOT rather than giving a little at launch and ramping up to full shot. That will change soon.

. 80's worth- at a full shot, on launch!!!!

Yes, Progressive controller would be a nice addition... .

Man that musta been some explosion!! Did anyone hopefully get that sucka on video??:D :D

Sorry to hear that Hoss,I leave on 2 . 75 pills all the time with no problems. Maybe the spraybar dumped too much too quick.

What were your other runs "Pre bad NOS experience"?
