was going with a walker but leaning toward this set up, but i have a few questions first for those who have used them.

1- how loud in the cab?

2- do they sell just the muffler? (i have spent enough on a elimination pipe and a aero turbine already and its too loud)

3- should i use it with the aeroturbine or by itself?

I've got the MBRP replacement muffler, heres my thoughts and answers to your questions:

The install was actually quite easy, the kit comes with the muffler, extension pipe (because the new muffler isn't as long as the stocker), and the clamps. I only had one concern with the kit, and that was one of the hangers that's welded to the muffler seems to have been welded about 3 inches to far up (towards the cab) as the stock rubber hanger doesn't set on the horizontal part of the muffler hanger, it rides on the corner where it makes the bend to go down to the muffler. Not really a big deal and I will move it when I get a chance. Other than that it's a very high quality set-up. Here's my opinionated answers to your questions:

1. Cab noise is just like stock until you really get after it, sounds good, no drone. By no means is it ridiculously loud, I like it.

2. Kind of answered this above, comes with the muffler, extension pipe, and clamps.

3. I would use it by itself as it seems the aeroturbine's cause some droning effect. My neighbor has the aeroturbine and is going to switch to the MBRP. Hope this helps.

thanks, great info. I guess I am a little confused, when i looked at it on the DPP website it looked like it was only offered as a cat back system with tailpipe for over $300. Thats why i was asking if it was sold seperate. Thanks i guess i will go back and look again.

I give this muffler an A++

Could not be happier, Well... maybe will stacks, thats why I ordered them, But the stacks will use this muffler before the turn to under the bed

Heres my story:

Yeah, get ahold of MARK CRAIG on here or contact him, I just ordered my muffler from him, along with the AFE stage 2 PG7 intake. Should be here by Wednesday hopefully, I can let you know after that.

And I just wanted to say:

Working with those guys so far has been great, real personal service! I had been PM'ing Mark for a little while, and Roger (I think) called and had all the info ready to go and I paid and it's on it's way! It's a nice change these days to get personal service. (I think it's OK to do that on here, right? I hope so!)

Mark Thank You For The Reply, And Thank All Others As Well. I Will Be Contacting You Soon For My Order. thanks Again To All Of You For The Info And Great Site!!!

I have this set up and like it alot, I left the cat installed and think that the sound is good, no drone. I also had the same problem as Bert&Holli had, The hanger on the muffler was welded in the wrong spot to work with my truck. So I cut it off and rewelded to fit, no big problem. I also bought 4" stainless steel band clamps for my installation, they are so much better that the traditional muffler clamp. !!!

Thanks,

Snoxracer

Someone mind posting some pictures of the muffler installed? I am interested in where you cut out the stock muffler.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I have not had good luck in the past removing factory mufflers by taking off the clamps. They have been to badly crimped and this looks the same way. Seems I read someone cut just before and after and added in the MBRP. Of course you having an 03; no kitty. :-laf

I too have this muffler and love everything about it. As for taking off the stock muffler... I tried to get it off by just hammering it with no luck, used a little heat from a torch and got it to move. A few cuss words and a small temper tantrum later I used some penetrating oil, had a cold drink and allowed it to soak a bit, grabbed a deadblow hammer and she fell right off. Once again this muffler is great. If you were sitting in my truck going down the freeway at cruise speed and could tell a difference between the MBRP muffler and the stocker, Id call you a liar. But when you add some fuel, its a whole 'nother story.

On both my trucks I had to cut the muffler off because after I removed the factory clamps they had dimpled the pipe to much to even hammer it off. So I cut the muffler out right at where the pipes go in and out of it. That worked out well though, because I ended up cutting about 4 inches off the tail pipe on both trucks to put the exhaust tip back to the stock location.

I'll probably take some heat for this post, but I had the MBRP muffler and removed it after 3 weeks. the quality of the replacement muffler was great and the sound was ok... not too loud unless you really got on it and then it would really roar pretty loud. I left the cat on mine to keep the noise down.

I had it professionally installed and the the installed opted to weld it on at each connection... . looked great.

After about three weeks I decided that I really did not like the sound and I think it got progressively louder... going up hill over bridges seemed to cause it to roar louder that before...

The biggest issue was drivablility. My truck is totally stock except for the muffler. Besides the noise there was no other improvement... fuel mileage remined exactly the same. The power band seemd to move up the rpm range... in that I lost significant low end torque. This is a real problem when pulling a 10,000 pound 5th wheeler.

I noted that if I accelerated from 65 or 70 mph there was a noticeable increas in performance... . however it was terrible at 0-30, very pronounced with the 5th wheeler attached.

I think that if I had other modifications (air intake, chip, or ???) it would have been a great addition. However, since I have absolutely no desire to do any of that, I opted to remove it. Fortunately we very very careful when taking off the original muffler so replacing it was pretty easy. Unfortunately, they had to torch off the MBRP muffler and destroyed it getting it off... . I was going to give it away but it went to the dump...

I am not slamming the MBRP mufflers, and Mark was great to deal with... I wnt to him since I had bought my $300+ worth of gauges from him... . again, the quality was great. . it just did not work for me. I decided that Chrysler and Cummins did a pretty good job putting the stock package together, and I am not as smart as there engineers..... Oo.

I called DPPI and they have the muffler only for about $160. 00 (approx), it's just not listed on the web site.

Last year I bought a Banks turbo-back 4" system. I really liked the sound. Over 20k miles, it's become significantly louder, even raspy (similar to str8 piped trucks) when fuel is added.

I considered my options, and remembered a dually I rode in with MBRP duals. It had a super mellow roar that I found appealing. I called Mark Craig and ordered the $160 polished muffler. This past Saturday I spent a couple of hours installing the MBRP. I cut about 27" out of the exhaust, starting about 11" from the downpipe flange. I spent an hour fighting the rest of the exhaust to make the pipes slip into the muffler. Five minutes to tighten some clamps, and then the test drive.

The muffler combo is great! Mellow sound, hardly louder than stock until you get on it. I hope it doesn't wear out as fast as the Banks muffler did. I don't want to do this again. Hopefully with two mufflers it will stay quiet until I sell the truck and get an auto.

My next truck will definitely receive the MBRP replacement muffler.

Thanks for the reply. Did you notice your truck being much louder with the windows up, or are you talking about the truck being louder with the windows down?

I am after a little roar, but want no drone inside with windows up. Thanks, Mike

Same here... I like the quiet inside the cab.

When the windows were up there was almost no difference with normal driving. With the windows down I could easily tell an increase in sound during normal driving.

Get on it or go up a hill or pull 10,000 pounds and it was very very noticeable... my wife hated it. Once we rolled up the windows on a really nice day and turned on the A/C just because she did not want to hear it...

Actually, I did not think it was THAT bad in normal driving, but I have to live with this lady and it was just easier to take it off...

Agian, the biggest issue was the apparent lack of torque (or a reduction) at low rpm when towing... that was the biggest problem for me. Hope this helps
