MBRP exhaust system...thinking about removing muffler..should i?

Guys i love my exhaust but i want it alittle louder. So i am thinking about taking the muffler off and replacing it with a straight pipe. 1 main concern is EGT's. Will removing the muffler lower egts or raise egts?

Sit back and think about this one.



Will removing a restriction in exhaust flow help get the air out of my motor?



To lower EGT you must get the air in the motor faster, and out of it faster. In, Out, or both. Doesn't matter, as long as more of it is moving (air).





My word is straight pipe it. If you don't like it, put the muff back on. I think you'll like it.

I know that seems like the logical answer more air in more out... But i remember reading someone posted that removing there muffler made there egts go up alittle bit. . Maybe i was misreading. . thanks guys

Although I probably didn't read the post you are talking about, I do know that in some cases, especially with large pipe 5" + or very high altitude, removing the muffler can make your EGT go up a little bit,, becuase of the way the air flows, it gets currents of air that can flow backwards in the pipe, and collide with oncoming air, and it will act as more of a restriction.

well i will be staying in the northern area so i dont have to worry about it. Anyone know of a company that sells a pipe with both ends flanged out so i can just take out my muffler and add in a pipe... i measured how long the muffler and pipe is to replace it and i need a 36" long pipe with both ends flanged out. .

i don't know who sells any nick but if i were you id go to a muffler shop or someplace that has 4" steel tubing and get however much you may need, go home, cut the pipe to length, and take a large pipe expander, (preferably a little bit smaller than 4"!), and heat the ends of the pipe while expanding the pipe. once done with that, cut 4 oposing slits at each end, (about 3" in for the end of pipe) that way if there is a snug fit you can slightly bend the metal out to get a desired fit. this should work but if im worng someone correct me! thanks and good luck nick! keep posted on what you do!

Not to start talking smack, but if someone's EGT's went up after removing his/her muffler, I would guess it's directly related to right-foot pressure rather than backpressure



Anyway--a custom muffler shop should do this job for 50-75 including the work of welding it up. I wouldn't expect to pay more that 10-20 for the pipe, and they should be able to flange the ends for you.



I know the local muffler shop here charges $65 to either cut out and straight-pipe, or install a glasspack muffler (your choice)--drive in-drive out.



I personally went with the glasspack, 'cuz I don't like the sound of the '03's with straights... . but many do...

Just from looking on there site they have the muffler eliminator for the stock trucks... Mine needs a 4" - 4"... . theres looks like a 3. 5-4".



Maybe they can make it 4" all the way threw... But along log on the road for me maybe getting this in stainless steel.

Geno's has the muffler eliminator kit for $96.



I bought a 4" straight through Mack muffler that I'm gonna put on mine when the weather gets a little warmer. My cousin did the same to his and his mileage went up a bit and his throttle response got better. Sounds better too. The muffler was $75.

i used the m. e. kit from genos. it works great quality is good also, still looks new after 2 winters. only slightly louder though, sounds about right. dont waste your money on a muffler. i really didnt notice any other diffs.
