MBRP Muffler

Just wanted to post my opinion. I just got my MBRP replacement muffler on today and I really like it. As for the noise it is hardly noticable in the cab. THe only time it really gets loud is under hard exceleration. I had to drive around some with the windows down just to hear it better. Too bad it was so cold today high temp 30.



As for the install I thought it was very easy. The only thing that took a little time was that I had to cut the tail pipe a couple times. Didn't want to cut it too short. I just cut the old muffler out rather than try and slide it apart over the crimps from the factory clamps. Start to finish I would say maybe 45 minutes max that includes installing a 5" tip.



I went through DPPI and have nothing but good things to say about them. Great price and great service. Ordered it on Monday and showed up first thing Wednesday morning. I think that's pretty quick.

I cant wait to put mine on on my 03. I have all the stuff I need to do a full 4" from the turbo back. Should sound great. Got mine from DPP also. Awesome guys to deal with.

After the first time either of you guys tow anything with your trucks with the new exhaust on (especially JHofmann, because our trucks are similar), please tell us if there's any noticeable drone in the cab. That'll be my critical info for deciding whether or not to get the 4" MBRP exhaust.

Agree 100%.



As far as towing, it is louder than when not towing (of course), but I haven't had any droning loaded or un-loaded with the MBRP.



FYI I have an 05 so there is a cat installed also.

I think the cat helps alot with the drone and the sound though. Folks with 03-04's seem to say the MBRP is pretty loud when towing while complaining about the drone. But, if you're into that sort of thing no worries then (at least with the noise level).

The LWB extended cabs are more prone to "Drone".

I have a MBRP on mine & it had a drone until I installed the resonator they sent. I'm very pleased with this setup for towing, but it's almost too quiet now .

Now that I've read more & figured out that stainless is not really any better here in the South, I would check with Rip & buy what he recommends.

I wont know if there is any drone with mine untill next spring. The 5er is put away for winter :{ . The truck will be also, I dont have the heart to subject it to all the lovely road salt we use up here in central NY. So my exhaust is one of my many winter projects.

I towed with mine last weekend over the coast range, a few good hills. Nice sound to it, no drone. My 5vr weighs 12,000lbs so I had a good load to test out the muffler & the Rokktech sensor. Noticed more useable throttle because egt's were down from last trip over. No noticeable increase in mileage (maybe do to too hard on the skinny pedel). All & all I'm pleased with it & so is the better half. She wasn't to keen on the Banks exhaust with the ScottyII in the cowl hole & silencer ring missing on my 2nd gen.

I have a new 3500 Quad Cab 4x4 and purchased a new MBRP Duel Exhaust this spring for the truck. System sounds good, but there is a drown at hwy speeds 70 mph. You feel a drown vibration from 70 mph to about 77 mph then the drown will smooth out. I did install another muffler - Aeor Turbine in the down pipe model: 4040 - this helped smooth out most of the drown, plus made the system a little more quiet. If you go to the longer muffler 4040L it has a resonator installed and the unit is a few more inches longer. Towing with the exhaust is great, good sound until your further into the throttle. She will then growl just a little. All in all i'm pretty happy with the system.

It doesn't drone, but it is louder under a load and it seems louder with a timing/duration box than stock.



It's still tolerable.

I have the MBRP muffler on my truck. It was one of the first mods... I also bought it from Mark Craig.



I have 10k miles on this setup and have nothing but positive comments. I have not taken the kitty off. I have never had any drone at all

You can get an adaptor at most parts stores, but if you have a welder or plan to have a muffler shop install it they will just fill the 3/32nds gap will weld and you're set. We have also had folks get a 3 inch wide band clamp, the band clamp material will stretch to sort of make a 3. 5 to 4. 0 connection as well.

Kent, I had the same issue to deal with.



I purchased a cast turbo elbow off a 04. 5+ truck (find someone that put on an exhaust brake). They have the 4" outlet. Next you need the 04. 5+ downpipe. You can get that at the dealer and is not very expensive. Next get the "cat delete" pipe from Mark Craig. The MBRP comes with the pipe that is needed from the cat delete to the muffler, since the MBRP is significantly shorter.



When you remove the stock muffler, don't damage the tailpipe, which goes over the differential and is already 4". I put the MBRP on the stock hangers and measured how much to cut off the tailpipe. It turned out that all I needed to cut was just a few inches. Actually I could have just cut the tailpipe right where the stock muffler slides into the expanded part of the pipe and hot have struggled disconnecting the stock muffler from the tailpipe.



The nice thing about this setup is that all the pipes are flaired correctly and the stock hangers are used. Nothing is cobbled up or force fitted. I used stainless steel band clamps for a super clean look and higher quality holding power. They also can be removed easier than U-bolts should you need to do maintenance or want to try a different setup.



I'm very happy with the system and the civilized, but "muscular" sound of the muffler and system.

I've got an '05 that I want to put a new exhaust on, but I want it as quiet as I can possibly get. I want to drop my egt's but need to keep the noise down as I have a friend who rides with me quite a bit who is extremely noise sensitive. Let me know what you guys think about MBRP systems since you have some experience with them. Thanks!

I don't think it's really any louder in cab unless your towing, the it is a *little* louder but not obnoxious. IF your real concerned about noise, look at the muffler made by whoever makes the modified crank sensor (i can't remember the name of the company, but if you search forums for "crank sensor mod" you'll find the company, then go their website and look at their muffler).

Thanks! I did some research and Rokktech is the company and their muffler is the "Silent Might". I read it was designed to be used with a pre-muffler of some kind (such as a resonator or loud race muffler). It looks like a possibility and I'll keep researching it. Again, thanks!

The MBRP will probably be quiet enough for him, especially if you leave your cat in place. Most folks says it's basically stock except when you flat foot the go pedal. If you off road or race and plan to pull the cat, then add in one of the MBRP 30 inch mufflers in place of the cat and you'll have a very quiet system and next to zero back presseure to keep the EGT's low.

Is there a noticeable difference in sound level or tone with the Dual exhaust versus the single? I also plan to leave the cat in place. One more thing... I have had a couple Magnaflow exhaust systems on some gas powered vehicles and have been pleased with their good tone and reasonable sound levels. Are their diesel systems the same and has anyone heard them side by side with MBRP's?
