Hello All,

I recently installed the MBRP Muffler Kit MK96116 on my 04. 5. I think it sounds great! Not much difference from the original, just a nice tone. However, during the install I noticed that my tail pipe needed about 5" cut off prior to going into the muffler. I wasn't exspecting this. For those who have used this same kit, did you have to cut your tail pipe? Thanks!

yes, i had to cut about 4. 5" off the rear section of tail pipe to get it to fit properly. the fella at genos said that he had to do the same thing.

The muffler comes with a 4" piece of pipe that is offset from one end to the other. One end of the pipe connects to the Cat, and the other connects to the muffler. I hope this answers your question.

Mark,

I agree, it is a nice setup! I purchased it from DPP and am very pleased. I just wasn't sure if I had made some sort of mistake during installation.

I would also like to state that my 04. 5 just turned 60k miles with few problems. I am still enjoying it very much.

Mark do you have a pic of the inside view of this muffler?

I just installed the same kit on my 04 1/2 yesterday and I had to cut 5" off my tailpipe also. If they would have placed the hangers 5 to 6 inches further back on the muffler and made the off set pipe 5 to 6 inches shorter, it would have been a direct bolt on job. My truck is a quad cab long bed. I called MBRP about it and they acted as though they never heard of this problem before. Haven't had a chance to tow with it yet to see how it affects EGT and noise.

Installed mine about a week ago and had to cut off about the same amount also. Otherwise a pretty good install fit. Love the sound!!

MBRP Exhaust

Hello All,

We built the MK96116 for the 04. 5-05 Dodge 600/610 and until GaryWagner called last Friday we had never heard of this issue before. Mark Craig is likely correct when he suggests that the OE has " build differences" on this truck.

We have built and sold thousands of these units and have never heard of anything but positive responses on them.

Thanks to all of you for posting your info, because sometimes we don't know of small issues like "build differences" until someone notifies us.

Mark,

Thanks again for sending us a link and bringing this post to our attention.

I installed the same muffler system over the weekend on my '06. I also had to cut off about the same amount on the tailpipe. I like the sound much better than the MBRP "True duals" I had on my 04. 5, it isn't as loud on the highway as that previous system.

With my TST Powermax box, it is set to automatically power down at EGT of 1500F. I used to hit that number pretty easily at WOT past 2000 rpm in 3rd. With the MBRP muffler installed, the EGT only gets up to 1025F max now. Truck pulls much harder on the highway, because now the boost max hits before the EGT temp max :)
