I am probably going to purchase the McLeod street puller (or whatever its called) within a month and I was wondering if anyone could offer any info with experience they have had with one good or bad. I drive hard and want to do some occasional pulls so its got to stand up.

After this I plan to really start with the enine mods (injectors, plate etc. ). Also I drive it everyday and pull a small trailer many days a week with my mowing equipment, will a clutch like this behave well enough to be bearable for stop and go daily driving? Would anyone recommend another similiar clutch?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am a college student still and this is a big expenditure for me so I want to make sure its the best way to go. Thanks

No problems. Feels like a stock clutch. Some complained of noise with the clutch out, in neutral. Nada noises here. Mine has been in for about 60k miles.

Haven't heard any good or bad comments on a McLeod. I run a Centerforce Dual friction, which seems to hold up just fine, but I think it is not meant for truck pulls or even once in a while trailer pulling. Not a bad price @ $520 for what it is. I would definately look into the SBC clutches. Very popular, expensive, but worth the money..... great quality product. I would get one but my wallet is holding me back and the fact that my CF is holding up just fine..... but as soon as that CF starts to slip, it's off to a SBC.

There are a few boys running around KY/IN with Haisley-McLeod Street Pullers. One name that comes to mind is Jacob Bradford out of Lexington KY. I LOVE watching this guy pull all over KY & IN. He has like a 98 or 99 QC 24V LWB with 5" stacks, and drives it everyday! I have no idea what all is dones to it, but its single charger puller truck that puts the street boys back on the poarch!

Do I think its a good clutch YES, would I buy it if I had the $$ YES. So if that's what you want get it and enjoy!:D

Edit: I see that your truck is a 96 5spd. Keep in mind you do have to purchase the larger input shaft for the Haisley Dual Disk. Last time I checked Haisley's I-shaft was $850:confused:

input shaft

Scheid told me that it would come with everything that I needed, and I should hope so at almost 2 g's, but hey thats the price you pay to play the game, right?

Thanks for all the feedback even though everybody is running the South Bend. :D I have heard good things about South Bend but the guys at Scheid said that Mcleod would be my best bet. Sure its expensive but all clutches in that category cost about that much so I thought I would ask on here and see what you guys thought.

Thanks again and would appreciate more info if anyone has any.

Well when they said that they may have just meant Flywheel, disks, centerplate, pressure plate, etc... ... . you need to make sure because you will have to have the input shaft as well.

Because the clutch itself list's for $1800 I think

input shaft

Yeah it cost around $1800. I will ask them about it soon, but I was talking the Mcleod and you said that the Haisley needed the larger input shaft or did you mean both?

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info.

The clutch you are talking about is a "Haisley modified McLeod" clutch. Check out Haisley's site. www.HaisleyMachine.com Yes the larger input shaft is required for any of the BIG 3 dual disk's, EEP, SBC, or Haisley. Another costly deciding factor.

I have been running a McLeod Dual Disc for a couple years now. I smoked my stocker clutch backing it out of the driveway after my first mod to the engine. Not really, but it only lasted about 2 days. I then went to the Center Force and I ripped out the center of the clutch one day just driving the truck home from work. I then went to the McLeod and about 1 year later I was replacing the snapped input shaft. I got new parts from McLeod (the snapped input also bent the discs) and went back with the McLeod. About a year later, I broke the main shaft in transmission. I rebuilt the trans with all new bearings and new fully splined main shaft and aout 2 months ago I shattered 5th gear standing on it at about 70mph. I think that the McLeod is a great clutch, but I don't think the transmission can hold up to the torque that comes so sudden on these engines. My McLeod has never slipped, my gears break instead. By the way, I don't do the tractor pull thing with this truck but I do occassionally pull a 13K pound fifth wheel.

re: haisley mach. mcloed D/D-kinda' a PITA to get the two disc's lined up to get the transmission in, seems to be a little noisy when your coasting in 5th or 6th, other than that no problems. Bob

transmission

Is it common then for the gears and so forth to break? Should I be replacing anything else besides the input shaft then (so something else doesnt break in the future)? Thanks for all the help, looks like its probably going to cost more than I was expecting.

I'll second that................

Absolute BEST customer service I have ever gotten. Peter will bend over backwards to support his product.

He will most likely recommend a 13-1. 25 con-OFE ( http://www.southbendclutch.com/13-1.25.html )for your application, since you wanna hot-rod and also tow. I have this clutch in my truck now, and it is sweet. Smooth engagement and I have yet to slip it.
