You can try clipping the waterpump fins. Or tap the freezeplug holes with a gigantic pipe tap and make trick threaded freezeplugs. Then you will blow something other than the plugs next time.

maybe not... it really doesnt take an extreme amount of pressure to blow the freeze plug does it? it would be a pain to tap them all like that... but it would prolly work to keep the pressure inside the block
 
Id try clipping the fins first then I would do the freeze plugs. I know most after market small ford engines have screw in freeze plugs. It also helps block strength. In one instance I herd of a 12v cracking right along the freeze plugs, now that engine was making almost 1200hp and hard to say how many times in was ran hard befor that occured. Im sure many
